The DOB recently approved permits for a five-story hotel at the old Getty gas station site on the corner of Metropolitan and Union avenues. This isn’t breaking news, exactly, as plans for a hotel here have been public knowledge since 2008. But demolition permits weren’t approved at the gas station until this March and the final plans for the new building are slightly different than originally contemplated. Plans back in 2008 called for a six-story, 54-room hotel, whereas the plans approved last week are for 5 stories and 52 units. When we visited this weekend, the gas station had been demolished although the signage remained.
