Today the Local reports that F&S Tires, which has been on the corner of Fulton and South Oxford in Fort Greene for 27 years, will probably be out of business by June. The store owed thousands in city fines that were eventually waved, but a new restriction was put in place requiring the shop to carry a maximum of 99 tires at a time, which the owner says means he rarely has the correct tires in stock for prospective customers and therefore can’t make a living. In April, Councilwoman Tish James sent out a press release saying she was in support of F&S’s owners, who “arrived before the recent renaissance” in the area and are now “struggling for survival amid specialty food shops, real estate offices and boutiques.” Obviously the owner could make millions off the sale of the building, but he tells the Local he’s not interested in selling.
