Patch reports that the long-planned Gowanus Canal Sponge Park is supposed to be tested out starting this spring in a pilot program. The park, designed by the firm dlandstudio, will use “sections of specialized plant life to filter rain and storm water…before allowing remediated water to flow into the canal.” According to the article, the pilot program will run near 2nd Street and the canal. (It’s unclear whether it will look like the rendering above from the get-go!) The DEP and Community Board 6 need to approve the plans before they’re put into place. There’s much more about the design on the website about the park.
