Atlantic Antic
THE 37TH ANNUAL ATLANTIC ANTIC is an event not to be missed! On this beautiful autumn day in Brooklyn, the Atlantic Antic will bring together one million people to Atlantic Avenue to celebrate the longstanding tradition of food, festivities, and fun! Sunday, 12pm to 6pm, Atlantic from 4th Ave to Hicks Street.

The Kings County Tennis Jamboree
On October 1, 2011 the Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) will hold their Second Annual Bed-Stuy Open Tennis Jamboree in the Marcy Playground on the corner of Myrtle Ave. and Nostrand Ave. in Brooklyn. The Jamboree is completely free for youth and parents residing in Bedford Stuyvesant. Students from the organization’s two local teams, Marcy and Tompkins Tennis Clubs will also be completing in their new team jerseys. The event includes trophies, donated prizes, barbeque, and live music. There will also be a voter registration table and outreach by Black Life study. Over 60 youth are planned to participant along with 20 volunteers. More information may be found at marcytennisclub.org. Registration begins at 12:30. Jamboree runs from 1:00 – 3:00.

Early Literacy Storytime Program
For children 3 to 5 years and their parents or caregivers. In this special six session series, families will enjoy stories and activities to encourage the development of early literacy skills. Families will receive free books and other materials to continue the learning and fun at home. SATURDAYS October 1, 15, 22, 29 and November 5 AND SUNDAYS October 2, 16, 23, 30 and November 6. Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). And on Saturday we also hold Smorgasburg, at the same Williamsburg location. Come join us – and all our food, antique, vintage and art vendors – this weekend. Flea: 10am to 5pm, Smorg: 9am to 5pm. Always free.

Transit Museum’s 18th Annual Bus Festival
On Sunday, October 2nd from 10 am to 5 pm, the New York Transit Museum will present the 18th Annual Bus Festival! The Museum will again partner with Atlantic Antic, Brooklyn’s largest street fair, for an exceptional day of free family fun. During this popular event, 16 vehicles from the Museum’s vintage fleet will be on view on Boerum Place, just off of Atlantic Avenue. In addition to boarding the buses, visitors will be able to take part in family workshops, speak with bus experts, and purchase the perfect gift from the Museum Store tent. Additionally, admission to the New York Transit Museum, one block away, will be free from 11am to 5pm, sponsored by Two Trees Management Co. LLC.

GreenHomeNYC’s Green Block Party
On October 1, 2011, local non-profit GreenHomeNYC will present the most innovative block party of the fall, focused on teaching New Yorkers how to green their built environment – while having fun. “The NEW New York” green street festival is revolutionary for its commitment to hands-on presentations by vendors, programming woven into the surrounding neighborhood, and a sustainable approach to event production. This is not a convention center trade show – it’s a party! The NEW New York Green Block Party takes place on N. 11th Street between Wythe and Berry Streets in Williamsburg, 4 blocks from the L train Bedford Street stop, from 11am to 5pm. The event takes place in front of Brooklyn Brewery and around the corner from Brooklyn Bowl, on the street and in the parking lot of 34 Berry. From 6pm-11pm, an after party (tickets $15 adv, $20 at door) includes screening of Truck Farm, and food trucks Coolhaus and Eddie’s Pizza.

Free Health Fair at Queen of St. Ann’s Church
Fort Greeners, this Saturday at Queen of All Saints Church the 4th Annual Health and Wellness Fair, “We Care About You.” Free health screenings for Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, Cholesterol, PSA Testing, Hearing and more. Saturday, October 1, 2011, 12 Noon – 4:00 P.M. Admission Free. The church is at 300 Vanderbilt Avenue (at Lafayette Avenue).
