Yesterday the proposed Atlantic Avenue BID had was the subject of a City Council hearing, and the Council voted unanimously in favor of the BID. According to Elizabeth Crowell, the BID Manager, “At the hearing only two objections [to the BID] had been filed, and both were deemed invalid. One was invalid because the filer could not prove ownership of property and the other was filed after the mandatory 30 filing period.” So what’s next? The Mayor should sign the bill into law by end of the year and the BID should be up and running by April, 2012. The District will cover all properties fronting Atlantic Avenue from the BQE to 4th Avenue, as well as one block north and south on all side streets. The budget will be $240,000 a year for marketing, sanitation, streetscape, and traffic and crime advocacy.
