South Oxford Street between Fulton and Lafayette is a part of the proposed expansion of the Fort Greene Historic District. The block is a mix of brownstones, brick apartment buildings and townhouses, and a few charming wood-frames. (Further south on South Oxford Street, the beautiful wood-frame at #158 is also part of the proposed district.) At the north end up the block is the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, known as the “temple of abolition” before and during the Civil War. The church fronts Lafayette Avenue and has already been landmarked. If you have any comments or questions about the landmarking process, contact the Fort Greene Association’s Landmarks Committee: landmarks@HistoricFortGreene.org.
