A reader brought it to our attention that the new owner of 878 President Street in Park Slope is looking for landmarks approval to alter the facade. The reader has this to say about the plans: “Apparently, they’re applying to add machinery on the roof (an a/c unit?), a roof deck, and—most importantly—five new windows on the side. That’s a lot of new windows! Also, there’s a large maple tree that’s not on the property but abuts it where the new windows are to go; are they going to be able to do all these renovations without damaging the tree?” The hearing is scheduled for September the 20th. Think this could prove controversial a la Norah Jones’ window additions in Cobble Hill? Click through for a side view of the building.

  1. I don’t have a problem with side windows. Party and side walls are black spaces, like unpainted canvases. That said, any changes should be in keeping with the style and period of the house. as far as the tree- the neighbor has the right to trim the branches that are over the property line but that’s it.

And crownmolding, since you find it so dumb to discuss what people choose do with their property, why the heck are you reading or posting on brownstoner?
