The Fort Greene edition of Patch, the AOL-owned local blogging effort, ran a story yesterday titled “The Architectural Misfits of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill” in which it took some jabs at some new buildings which clash with the historic architecture that gives the area much of its character. The only problem? Two out of the three offending examples that it gives aren’t in Fort Greene or Clinton. Both 315 Gates and 31 Kosciuszko are well east of Classon Avenue, placing them firmly in Bedford Stuyvesant. (The third example, 163 Washington, is safely within Clinton Hill, though neighborhood nazis might argue that Wallabout would be technically more specific.) Of course, it’s not like there aren’t plenty of examples of ” buildings [that] stick out like a sore thumb” in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill proper: There are a couple on Grand Avenue between Greene and Gates (328 Grand Avenue, at left, for example), another at Greene and Carlton (center) and of course there’s the Adelphi Finger (at right). And the Verdi! Heck, the Forte’s not particularly contextual either. People may disagree about the attractiveness or appropriateness of these buildings but one thing we should all be able to agree upon is that the Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy border is Classon Avenue!

  1. It’s all for naught. I hear both AOL’s Patch and Yahoo Local are scaling back their operations dramatically in the next few months. Both ventures have infuriated shareholders because they lose money hand over fist. Should be good news for you Brownstoner! Perk up.

However, I do find this post to be terribly hypocritical. Even bringing the term ‘nazis’ into the post!?! As every blogger should know, Nazis and Hitler belong in the comments.
