City: Batten Down the Hatches to Prep for Irene

The city is preparing for the possibility that Hurricane Irene will hit this weekend, with the DOB issuing an alert saying all construction sites have to be secured and warning that it will issue violations and Stop Work Orders to sites that haven’t taken the necessary precautions. Meanwhile, the Hurricane Zone Finder allows you to type in your address to see if you’re in an area that needs to be evacuated if the storm hits; stretches of Sunset Park, Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Williamsburg and Greenpoint are all “Zone A,” which have the highest risk of flooding.
