Getting better but still not “on time.”
One can only hope.
Would seem that in the 21st Century, digital posting might actually work
I don’t have any particular political or economic rant today. The day is young and you know where all the problems lie.
Real estate porn:
This is technically in the same Los Angeles neighborhood I lived in, although several miles away.
LMAO, Scott. Something tells me this isn’t just real estate porn, but an invite to the real thing. Did you scroll through to the bedroom shots, and do you think both women (and the dreamy background music) come with the house?
I thought the 2 women were a nice addition.
This area is used for a lot of porn filming.
Scott, that was the most hideous house I’ve ever seen. Is that where they filmed the Direct TV commercial with the Russian oligarch? ” OPulence. I has it.”
What’s happening hot stuff???
Guess we can flirt freely as there’s no sign of my e-ball & chain!
Baby, you never ask me out, or spend money on me, anymore. The spark must have gone out of the relationship. Sigh.
OMG! This comment did not appear until I refreshed!
Lo siento. Our spark is as strong as ever! Plus which, did you not see me post to that tramp I’m married to that she’s NOT permitted to put you in the garage of the Gingerbread House???
I’m watching you….both of you…….*cue ominous music*
You always like to watch us, bxgrl. It’s one of your kinks.
One year anniversary goose vigil in Prospect park…
Would that be considered “Stylized Mill Basin?”
awful ending about the story of that missing 9 year old from borough park
Yes, really awful. It’s impossible to imagine how anyone could do that to any living creature, let alone an innocent child.
Here’s the story about the man who apparently did it. rather gruesome details….
I was getting dressed this morning and had the news on in the next room when suddenly I heard who I thought was Paul Lynde giving an anti-gay rant. Nope, just “Dr.” Marcus Bachman. Uncanny! After having been on vacation in Europe where the news is actually filled with, well, actual news, it is quite shocking to return to my home country and be greeted by the new normal.
Who is Marcus bachman???
Marcus Bachman video…
DIBS, you voting for Michelle, Palin, or someone else?
Last night on my way home some lady came up to me and asked me to buy her a sandwich because she heard on NY1 that Obama was gonna stop sending her check! Man, talk about entitlement…..what is wrong with people, thinking life is just bouncing from one free lunch to the next. How about GET A F U C K I N G JOB!
in Crown Heights, I often see these dudes at the Bedford & Atlantic Ave intersection asking for a $1 for chickens or something like that. But they make no excuses and often polite in asking
damn, randi, who pissed in your cheerios? I’m sure the week before she was asking people to buy her a sandwich for some other reason.
“who pissed in your cheerios?”
LMAO. Great line, bfar.
It’s not about the sandwich it’s about how fast Obama saying “checks might not go out” gets to the fat lazy food stamp lady on the street. She was not a bum, just your average public housing handout junkie.
sometimes i get a tad pissy about the gazillion Summer Meals for Kids program ads i see on the subway… there are like 500 places in nyc where they can get free breakfast and free lunch. okay whatever, that’s cool and maybe for some necessary… but it’s just annoying that they (well their parents) can use money to DO have (and many DO) on other things that people would consider luxiries. since their parents dont have to pay for breakfast OR lunches they can then use that money for other things. screw that. and you have to be 18 and under. why cant this program be made for EVERYONE of ANY age? i’d like to get subsidized breakfasts and lunches all summer so i can save up for a real vacation! maybe im tired of visiting places on the internet?
rob, ignoring whether or not your assumptions (impoverished parents spend the money that would feed their children on luxury goods) are correct, feeding kids reasonable food (who cannot feed themselves) is still a net public good. You, on the other hand *can feed yourself*.
“You, on the other hand *can feed yourself*.”
If you consider vinegar sammiches feeding yourself.
true; i guess i meant ‘can make decisions about how to feed oneself’ rather than ‘eat well’ or ‘have excellent hand-eye coordination’
Not to mention, bfar, that dyscartographics are a protected class.
> If you consider vinegar sammiches feeding yourself.
I know I’ll regret asking this, but are vinegar sandwiches just vinegar on bread? That sounds like something they serve to child laborers in a Dickens novel.
Hey Snarky! Speaking of elusive PLUSAs whom I invite to drink
Yes, that is our understanding from *rob* of what constitutes his trademark vinegar sammich.
> Speaking of elusive PLUSAs whom I invite to drink
I prefer to think of myself as illusive rather than elusive.
For God’s sake, rob. Now you’re jealous of poor kids who get an apple and a box of cereal?
If you want to go on a damn vacation, stop smoking and drinking for one month, and you’ll have enough money. Stop smoking and drinking permanently, and you will have enough money for breakfast, lunch and vacation.
Your sense of entitlement is worse than any of the people you despise so much.
MM, stay outta my purse. it’s none of your business what i spend my monies on as i EARN it MYSELF. i dont go on squaking about your vices. im getting really sick of you and bxgirl constantly bringing up my smoking. i pay more in taxes on those cigarettes to help the lazy poor who take take take… than you do on your vices. so stick a cork in it you pompous snobby know it all. isnt their a tin ceiling you should be fawning over right now!?!
*lights cancer stick* that I PAID for with MY OWN MONEY, taxes of which fly out the window and winds up who KNOWS where. and when i DO get cancer, and i WILL, ill get to take back from society!!!! yay!
Fine. I could really care less if you smoke yourself into a cinder, or drink your liver into mush. It’s your choice.
Maybe then you’ll stop the endless carping about all of the “free” things poor people get. For someone who “earns their own money”, you spend more time worrying about what others have and get, than how you can make do, or do better, with what you have.
There are plenty of hardworking people out there who would give their eyeteeth to have what you have, and through no fault of their own, now have nothing, and have to have their kids sign up for free breakfasts and lunches. You should thank your lucky stars you aren’t one of them.
Your incessant whining about people, about whom you have no real basis of fact to fall back on, is disgusting, and I’m tired of reading your rants whenever you aren’t getting enough attention from everyone else.
You act as if a kid’s sandwich is somehow taking something out of your life, when in fact, you have made yourself so miserable, you can’t even appreciate what you have. I hope you someday find some real joy in life.
You act as if a kid’s sandwich is somehow taking something out of your life,
u completely miss my point. his sandwich is NOT taking anything from my life… my issue is that *I* want free breakfasts and lunches as well! why do poor people only get free stuff? everyone should
“*I* want free breakfasts and lunches as well! why do poor people only get free stuff? everyone should”
*rob*, you really should visit Russia c.1917 on the Internets.
Poor people get free stuff and rich people get free stuff. You get screwed.
montrose I agree but rob’s post was way funnier then yours
I’ve bought it up once- don’t let your paranoia hit you in the ass on your way to the cancer ward.
New U.S. map for New Yorkers:
No idea yet, m4l. Only one I like is Huntsman & Perry
Perry isn’t official candidate yet right?
Yeah perry seems like a great guy. I love the way he executes retards and Mexican nationals!
Good morning randi. How did you “find religion” overnight???
It found me!
I was salivating, er, I mean watching the Uruguay-Mexico soccer match last night.
dave, I saw your wife interviewed on the news this morning:
“Eunice Wentworth “Lovey” Howell: Anyone who says money can’t buy happiness doesn’t know where to shop”
Luis Suarez for uruguay is particularly handsome….
Wait, so your concern is that fat people watch the news and can interpret it to figure out how it affects them?
Seriously. If you’re claiming that she’s *always* asking for handouts, what she happens to say while asking for the handout isn’t really relevant, is it?
And your ‘average’ public housing resident is neither panhandling nor a junkie, d0uchebag.
Show function not working again.

Does Mr B monitor this at all??????
“Thurston Howell III: You goofed, didn’t you?
Disqus: I am not programmed for that information.
Thurston Howell III: I wonder what next year’s models are gonna look like.
Disqus: I am not…
Thurston Howell III: Oh shut up!”
Shall we bring up the discussion of smokers and healthcare again????
CGar…where are you getting all this Gilligan’s Isaland dialogue from???
Did everyone see that Sherwood Schwartz died????
He was the creator of Gilligan’s Island and The Brady Bunch
What Gilligan’s Island quotes, Mr. Howell???
“[the castaways have set up a courtroom and are conducting a trial]
Thurston Howell III: Your Honor, will you get another gavel?
Professor Roy Hinkley: Why?
Thurston Howell III: That one’s squirting milk all over me.”
“Did everyone see that Sherwood Schwartz died????”
dave, a friend just txtd me that Sherwood Schwartz died in bed with a 24-year-old male hustler.
Rob, did you “hold it” till you got home last night?
Did I not say to buy NFLX yesterday???????
Did I not say that all those people who were WHINING about the price increase should just buy the stock and that the gains would pay for their price increase many times over?????
NFLX +$7.75 today
Did i not also say to buy CSTR????
Raunch Hour on Gilligan’s Island:
Hmm. Looks like the elkins house rear cornice finally gave up its long battle with gravity yesterday.
Can you take a picture? Are they still working out there? I got an email from someone who is interested in the property after this guy finishes his “renovations”.
dave, your avatar is prolly my favorite, and since the convo seems a little heavy today (npi), I searched the Internets for some of the more amusing things you’ve said.
(PS, in reading Gilligan’s quotes, I realized that “someone” here really ought to change his avatar to Gilligan.)
Many a man owes his success to his first wife and his second wife to his success.
When did Sherwood Schwartz die?
Plus which, I propositioned MM, and she ignored me – must mean the ewife is skulking about.
Cgar, I answered you, see below under your original remark.
*skulking AND stalking*
“*skulking AND stalking*”
And exactly which of those was untrue???
I’m not answering you because I am doing hidden surveillance on you and my evil landlady. You don’t see me.
bernanke hinting at more stimulus…market climbs
Oops. This was the other Raunch Hour on Gilligan’s Island post I had intended:
“Gilligan: You’re a big man with a big head and – -…
Skipper Jonas Grumby: Gilligan!”
I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised. 2 grown men “sharing” a hut after all. Easy to guess who was the top and who was the bottom. And I guess the Skipper was into twinks and Gilligan was into bears.
Murdoch is taking it on the chin. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. If if is confirmed his papers hacked phones of 9/11 victims, he could have some real problems here. The empire is under seige.
Good- he deserves whatever bad things come his way.
he deserves big punishment for stealing a top talent from my peeps
ENY….he withdrew his bid for BSkyB
I saw that coming. He didn’t have much choice. It would never have been approved now.
I have CSTR, although I might sell soon.
I bought NFLX late last year and rode it up for a while before selling.
I don’t think either company can keep growing at current rates, and both stocks will eventually come down to earth.
I think Amazon in particular will start eating into Netflix’s market share in the next few years. They certainly have the technology, infrastructure, customer base, and cash to compete whenever they feel like it.
typical, no response when she’s proven wrong. or she’s typing a 15,000 word essay response
ENY….he withdrew his bid for BSkyB
It appears that’s only the start.
Hi everyone! I’m back from Hong Kong for a while. How’s the summer going? Any gatherings afoot?
Welcome Back wonton! What did you bring us???
There is, indeed, talk about a mega summer gathering in the works.
Mega summer gathering sounds terrific.
I’ve brought back a bag of peppers from Sichuan, to spice up everyone’s life.
Well, for God’s sake, wonton, how long are you going to deign to be in our presence before you abandon us again for months on end without notice???
Mega events require extensive planning. And I’m advised that karaoke is an option.
I’ll be here until end October. Business in Hong Kong is good, so I can’t stay here very long. By “good” I mean: 4.5 % unemployment rate and lots of money in circulation. Sadly, I may be abandoning Brooklyn soon for the brighter opportunities of Asia.
HK during the summer is unbearable so you’ll need an escape somewhere albeit you dont need to OWN a pad in BK – can always rent
Actually, I thought that yesterday’s weather here in Brooklyn was far more unbearable than the weather I left behind in HK.
it might be HOT here but not hot & MegaHUMID like HK. I have some family visiting from HK and they said they can deal with this heat but not the HK Humidity
Humidity is a killer. I get migraines and feel sick when the humidity is high. Horrible.
dont forget your hair would be on mutiny too
Yeah, but in HK the air conditioning everywhere is cranked up to 20, and a lot of businesses even leave their doors open, so there’s always a respite from the humidity. I walk down Queen’s Road, and a cold breeze is always wafting around my ankles from escaping a/c
yeah, the HK locals love their “air con”
There’s a movement afoot to replace the bauhinia flower logo on the HK flag with a Samsung split air conditioner.
“I have some family visiting from HK”
And you’re just mentioning this NOW??? Any single women amongst the visitors who needs a place to stay???
yeah, 3 single females.
if you want to offer some babysitting assistance of them 3, I’m sure their parents would love the offer
Not what I had in mind, Wingman. Try harder. I’ve got some time to bake you brownies.
if my cousin visits this summer, I’ll drag her out with me.
OK, thanks, wingman.
Do you like nuts on your brownies?
prefer no nuts
(Tho, given some of your recent posts, it was a fair question )
I tolerate nuts but I dont prefer them – same thing when it comes with real life
October gives us plenty of time for several mega gatherings. A Summer gathering is under discussion and then there’s the traditional Labor Day-ish gathering. And then usually one in October.
Sorry to hear you may be leaving Brooklyn. On the plus side, any number us will be all too happy to come drink with you in Hong Kong.
And I know some excellent places to drink there, including a new hidden speakeasy that is tucked away between two open air butchers in the meat market. You wade through dangling carcasses, knock on an unmarked door, then descend to a fab 60s style cocktail lounge with a drink menu a la WeatherUp.
I’m there! Have passport, ready to go.
Welcome back! How long are you here for?
Just couple of months….I don’t want you Plusas to get bored of me.
CSTR is going to have a few excellent quarters plus there’s a huge short position that looks likely to be squeezed.
Given it’s growth rate of 54% this year and 27% next year for EPS and a P/E of 17x and 13x respectively, why is it “going to come down to earth?”
The issue I have with CSTR is that their two main business products have almost no barriers to entry for competitors.
The biggest advantage they have is deals with supermarket and convenience store chains, and there is no reason to believe that those stores will not squeeze more money for those deals, go to more lucrative competitors, or start their own competitive services.
I think they will have a good run for bit longer, but I’d rather not try to time the peak.
Wonton…bring me anything??????????
(Though I don’t know which of us should be more terrified when we think alike!)
I saw netflix just reorganized their pricing structure to separate streaming and dvds, nearly doubling the monthly bill. think it will turn folks off of dvds?
I see the Netflix change turning people off of streaming more than DVDs, given the relative small size of the streaming library, especially when it comes to anything released in the last 2 years.
My guess is that the pricing plan will help NFLX short term, as most people just keep up their same monthly plans at at 30-60% increase (on top of a small increase at the first of the year).
Longer term, I think the higher prices will encourage more competitors, including Amazon.
Montrose,,,,how can all this continue if they don’t have permits??????
To be clear; it fell off by itself. No work has been done for the past several days.
“To be clear; it fell off by itself.”
Sorry, bfar, but the police didn’t buy that explanation from Lorena Bobbitt either.
A good… tip, cgar. i’ll have to re-member to come up with a better story.
“turn foks off dvds”
what’s the alternative??? They already own the streaming business.
Scott, there’s also Apple with their push to go into video streaming
Thank U big Ben. More stimulus talk will power the gold train, most commodities, and equities. albeit not sure if economy will be helped much at all
of course, they also haven’t closed up the building, which isn’t a great thing, given the rain.
Wrong, BHS. They own both of those businesses. There’s no competitor for coin machines that has any share.
With the red Box business, EVERY ONE OF THEIR MAJOR CUSTOEMRS tried to go it alone and failed and went back to them…the most recent being Safeway a few months ago.
The stores love the way it works now because they have incentivized the coin biz to where the customer takes a chit for the store and the store gets more $$ and pays coinstar more.
dibs, we shall see.
In terms of DVD rentals, I personally have seen more redbox competitors the redbox kiosks, although they are certainly the most common.
They are talking a lot about getting into the streaming business, but this is a totally new area for them and one they will have a hard time breaking into.
In terms of coin redemption, I see a good market opportunity for a company to make copycat hardware and sale it directly to stores for for a fixed capital + maintenance costs.
I also think that both products will reach a market saturation point fairly soon, and societal tends of getting movies online and using cash for fewer purchases will not help them.
Best part of shows @ the prospect park bandshell is seeing the looks of the people who live around PPW walking their dogs as 1000s of drunk, high white kids get released upon their neighborhood after the show.
there’s a venue at fulton and brooklyn (next to the popeyes) that occasionally hosts rave-y events, and it always makes me laugh/be concerned when I get out of the subway and and there are crowds of white kids in furry boots, blinky lights and other crazy bits wandering around.
haha – that’s funny. i wonder what the venue is!? i’m so out of the loop now i don’t know where anything “cool” is happening.
dont know where anything “cool”???? oh boy, you’re maturing prematurely man. you sounding like a 30 yr old now
The Lab Banquet Hall
Is it the club on Fulton St. just east of Tompkins/Brooklyn Ave., one door in from Popeye’s which is across the street from Foodtown?
I think it’s called ‘the lab’? Big mural and parkinglot, between popeyes and some brownstone business.
“white kids in furry boots, blinky lights and other crazy bits wandering around”
bfar! So you HAVE met *rob*!
wonton, you really must upload an avatar. Given OT history, I think an avatar of a young buff Asian guy would be fitting for you, don’t you agree?
[Ducks for cover as dave throws his coffee cup at me]
I did upload an avatar, but it’s not showing!! Did I do something wrong, or are avatars being screened first by the Powers That Be?
Your avatar is showing now. I like it, but I’m thinking he’s not dave’s type.
(And, trust me when I say, you really don’t want to wade into the site’s issues, including screening)
Wonton…you can find a nice avatar here:
Very nice indeed! But I prefer a more traditional look, as you can see.
Wonton…log off then back on
It was less humid here, Wonton. that’s why, when I lived in Hong Kong, I’d go to Bangkok every weekend…hotter but less humid and enjoyable at night.
Well, yes, there were other reasons too
The reason there’s no good competitor for the coin biz is that CSTR has a lock on the patents for the best technology
No, I can’t see
do people care about this whole news of the world, murdoch, B Sky B, etc. business….i know it is newsworthy but to be front page headlines on NY times for days is just weird. there are so many more pressing issues that should be given more coverage.
NYTimes in incentivized to try to help finish him off right – ie as any other News Corp media outlet
I think what M4L says is true but there is widening evidence that other news media engage in the same practices. I have a feeling a lot of news outlets are sweating bullets right now. But Murdoch is among the worst.
Any new gay bars open in HK, Wonton????
Too many to count, Dave! Plus most of the “straight” bars are gay-ish.
Check out this incredible site that jackal found……
That was hilarious- especially the first screen.
DIBS, if you still dont see Wonton’s avatar, it’s the Red Face Ancient Chinese warrior from the 3-Country days – ie the one that you see cops and gangsters pray to prior to them going to work each day
It is Guan Yu, and the picture was taken in a small Hakka village temple way up in the New Territories.
Can anyone tell me what is going on with google? they keep saying things like they will delete accounts with non-public profiles. Does that mean they will delete gmail accounts? Or just the google + accounts?
what is this google plus stuff i keep hearing about?
its a Facebook wannabe.
ugh – no more twatter stuff please
randi……..has any work started on that frame on the cor of Lafayette & Adelphi??????
not that i have seen.
saw some permits posted a few months ago and looked like they were doing some work on the interior
anyone see video of that moron who climbed the wberg bridge the other day?
not quite cirque de solei but pretty ballsy.
yeah – damn hipsters
wow does everyone see the little thumbnail? disqus did that for me i guess.
I saw the “”Skipper” and “Gilligan” at a Milwaukee rock radio promo back in the 70′s.
They had them row ashore in a little row boat that had been anchored in Lake Michigan. When they made it to shore they were mobbed by the crowd, who had been drinking beer in anticipation, for quite a while. The Skipper looked genuinely afraid for his life.
when i posted the youtube link disqus added a still from it to the post. i will try again….
yeah and when you click on it the video opens in its own little window without navigating to the actual youtube page
maybe disqus isnt such a POS after all,
you mean they post a pic below the post??
yeah, do you see it?
for me it only shows up when you refresh the page….
it’s sporadic for me. see it sometimes but not now
can someone please translate for mr howell?
Anyone else notice that 50 or so recent posts just disappeared and other, older posts are now posting out of order?
im SURE my free meals posts were deleted by a moderator
Rob, they are still there.
The refresh and the real time updating are very scr ewed up.
I didn’t know that Gilligan died? In 2005!
Yes, I’ve posted a lot of youtube videos and gotten a pic (or a thumbnail) below but not always
do they even check IDs at those free meals place?! i think im gonna dress up like hannah montana and walk into one. where’s the closest free lunch place in soho? and where’s the closest free breakfast place in park slope? anyone know? are the free meals gross tho, like what you get in school and detox centers?
don’t think you have the cajones to try to pull it off
“i think im gonna dress up like hannah montana”
Thought that’s how you always dress? :-
anyone can go to a soup kitchen, food pantry or homeless shelter.. here is a list of ones in brooklyn
GROSS randi!!!! i dont feel like getting lice for a cup of watered down soup and a rotten apple. plus most of the soup kitchens in nyc are full of violent offenders and crazy people. ive never gone to a food pantry, i think i have too much pride to do that.
“To find other types of programs in our food assistance network — including after-school and summer programs, low-income daycare centers, Open Market BackPack Programs for children, shelters, rehabilitation centers and youth programs — contact the Food Bank at (212) 566-7855.”
Rob, they are the same free breakfast and lunch that they serve at school during the year.
I’m very hungry. Maybe I’ll join you, rob.
denton, thanks so much for your email. Sorry, I haven’t had a chance to send a detailed reply yet, but I’ll fill you in. Hope you had a great weekend!
dave, ‘jew see my Sherwood Schwartz post???
qquite a while ago
My recent one about whom he died in bed with?
Grey day in Chicago. I got my first directions request today. Everywhere I go people ask me directions. The Chinese derivatives conference last night was so so.(Chinese derivative regulator was interesting though). There are about 20 “foreign” firms which have created companies in China to trade, which is the only way you can participate in the 3 major commodity exchanges whose volume is 90% speculation, 10% hedging.
Re Netflix, it seems that they are segueing to a totally online, steaming library. They have been building that and building that and it is great. I actually prefer it to the DVDs. I think this is their first step to treating the DVD business as a premium as an add-on to the streaming biz.
What a way to go!!!!!!!!
hey cgar… good to see you back. Fixed most of your posting problems?
Do any of you actually stream movies? Any glitches?
I stream movies with netflix
It works well, but the quality is not as good.
“Standard” quality is like broadcast TV, and “High Definition” is about the same as DVD.
I do too. Occasionally you get a movie which is defective and you let them know. Well, actually that happened only once. Generally, the quality is a little worse than a DVD and sometimes the movie will stop (depends on your internet connection) to buffer. But they have so much stuff on line now, it is great. The latest movies are usually only available on DVD.
i do – it works pretty well. once in a while it will have a buffering prob.
I hearby volunteer my help in setting up a summer OT or pan-brownstoner gathering. I would really like that. Having a gathering that is.
My suggestion is a free for all type place like Hot Bird, i.e. which requires no work except for the inevitable directions given to *the lost boy* over the course of a week.
just ignore the requests for directions till the last minute – as he’ll claim to have forgotten all the earlier directions given
Hot Bird is a good idea for one of the Summer gatherings, though something else may be in the works first.
But, I’m not allowed to give *rob* directions to Hot Bird again, as last time I did he ended up in the middle of the Atlantic Yards construction site.
he could’ve easily strolled down passed it and into crown heights and you would’ve gotten calls to “come get me ASAP. I’m scared. very scared. help!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Any pics of the 24 year old hustler?????
My friend just sent a txt. He said that’s not something we’re likely to see in the paper. Yeah, right, give it a day or so, and we’ll see his pic and know everything about him. I’m sure we would already, but Rupert has been distracted this week.
I’d prefer an indoor vebnue with AC
Hot Bird has both large indoor & outdoor spaces if it’s a humid night.
no more food at hot bird
no prob man, we can order some good eats from Just Taste It a block away on Fulton.
that gastropub place on clinton and myrtle is looking pretty nice from the outside – albeit not sure they’ll finish it in time for a gathering soon
And no food nearby it either, except MCD
there’s stuff on vanderbilt, but you have to cross atlantic.
there’s a few places on Fulton beside the Just Taste It place
Mumbai hit with multiple bomb blasts killing at least 15 people.
If this came from pakistan, which is most likely, watch out for major retaliation
How about we all just go to Peter Lugers?????
who is gonna foot that bill?
the dude stuck on the innermost seat – ie last to get away when the bill comes
if we venturing to billyburg, we’ll turn the reins over to the young hipster. Homeboy knows where to get the good eats & drinks and Luger would not be in the mix
Each pays his own way, randi.
I know it’s a concept you’re totally unfamiliar with
i can afford it. its the Rob’s of the PLUSA community i am worried about.
Let’s go back to Ratifico
Every time I walk past there with Snappy, I suggest we go there. For some reasons, she starts walking really fast and crosses the street.
And they only take cash, randi. Unles you have a Luger CC
Does anyone have a really good shoe repair? I destroyed a pair of high heels aerating a lawn during the wedding.
DIBS, this one is for you. Me Chinaman buys cheap stuff which are not worth repairing but simply replacing
Hi Puma! Wow! You look especially hot today!
The best in the City of which I’m aware is David’s in Grand Central – the 45th Street entrance at Vanderbilt. I’ve been taking shoes there for years, and their crafstmanship is phenomenal – I inherited new and almost new Gucci loafers from my father (for which I always criticized him, until I wore a pair, and discovered they’re like buttah, so I apologized posthumously!), and when I pick them up from David’s they’re like brand new.
There’s also a good place on DeGraw Street, a couple of doors in from Court, which another PLUSA recommended to me, with which I’ve been happy.
But, nothing compares to David’s, so I wait and take my good shoes there when I’m going to be in midtown.
My favorite shoe repair place is midtown. There is nothing right by me in the hood. My place is on 39th street between 3rd and Lex. I don’t like the Russian ones where you have to nego everything, starting with their idea of how you need the shoes rebuilt. I bought a nice pair of shoes with skinny heels. They look good but they get stuck in the cracks in the sidewalks. The other day I could not extract my heel on 42nd Street. I had to remove my foot from the shoe, lean down and yank the shoe with both hands out of the spongy crap they put in the sidewalk cracks. So the heel leather is peeled off and I have to go to my guy to fix it AGAIN.
So much for fashion.
Not in Brooklyn, Arkady.
“time wounds all heels”
if we doing a repeat-venue, have to say Loki (despite that shiiiitty bartender) is worthy of a revisit.
franklin park would be fun, and they have some sort of food attached.
not as if i would be invited and.or show up, but anyway…
You are invited. I am challenging you to a duel.
randi, I’ve invited you before. You never replied. You never showed.
Randi- you should come. You’d have fun and we’ll protect you from donatella.
You have no idea how tough I am. Just like those people in jail with all that time on their hands………I am working out big time now. I am not going to get any tattoos or anything but am feeling tough enough to take on Corinne Rossi.
So randi, watch out. ;But do feel free to come to any of our social gatherings.
I think you scared randi away
Randi- you should come. You’d have fun and we’ll protect you from donatella.
actually it’s me youre gonna have to protect him from
Rob, I like you but if I’m betting, I’m putting my money on Randi
*rob* want to come with me to my gym?
for self defense class?
Right. Here is the sequence:
1) Self defense
2) Aggressive self assertion
3) A$$ kicking.
I am in aggressive self-assertion now. But rapidly progressing toward class number 3.
You might be in Self-defense special education but you have to start somewhere.
issue aint the might but the heart
hmmm……you have a point there…
i am most afraid of cgar ever since i insulted cdog’s diet of bacon egg cheese sammiches.
comments like that make me want to consider putting money on Rob instead
“i am most afraid of cgar”
Understandable, randi. Most people have that reaction to me, especially once they meet me in person.
are u still mad about my cdog comments?
“are u still mad about my cdog comments?”
I just replied to that in my PS post.
No, of course not. I told you that a long time ago. And I am not one to hold grudges.
“i insulted cdog’s diet of bacon egg cheese sammiches.”
PS, you know very well that I posted to you at least a year ago that I long ago moved past that comment, which is when you emailed me, and gave us some of your personal deets.
If you don’t want to join us, that’s your prerogative, but we always have a great time hanging out together (well, except for a couple of people who have never been seen or heard from again after meeting us).
“which is when you emailed me, and gave us some of your personal deets”
untrue. must have been an imposter,
You may be right. I thought you’d emailed me your email addy, but perhaps not.
But, there was a very nice discussion with you that day, in which you told us some things about yourself. I’ll find the thread when I can.
randi, if you want to be invited (you don’t have to accept), then email me at carrollgardened AT gmail DOT com
dont be so wishy washy man. if you want to show up, show up. if you don’t want to, it’s your perogative. am sure you would have a good time if you show up
dibs – Manhattan? Or will you take them to Phila.?
peter luger’s sucks
ugh – no loki
dude, how about a billyburg joint arranged by you before you moved out of the hood?
I say we go back to Roberta’s in Bushwick. Awesome venue. Indoor and outdoor. Great food. And amazing drinks – frozen gin & orange or lemon or something; can’t recall the name, but after 1/2 of one of those, lucky we remembered where we were.
yeah, a smaller one, since i suspect many people don’t wanna travel that far!
Some of us enjoy visiting BBurg’s last hipster!
I think the best place is the one iunderground at Rockefeller.
And yes, randi, you are invited.
donatella is scaring me
you know you like it, you narcoleptic you. Just trying to keep you entertained.
what you scared for?? Donatella has the same problem as me in intimidating others – friendly face.
CGar, insist on DCB to show up and tell him not to worry about not having brownies for me
I always try, but DCB dropped off the face of the blog. Could be stuck behind a pesky firewall.
thought you have his email for contacting right?
I do. And I always invite. You can lead a PLUSA to booze . . .
Remember how he didn’t want to meet us last summer at Hot Bird but he dropped off the pictures of the Blue Mosque for me from Istanbul. He left them with the bartender. I thought that was wonderful. I think his wife convinced him to drop all his “bad habits” and pull his socks up. Hence, his disappearance. Just a theory. I hope I am wrong.
Yeah, CGar, tell him I am sorry for all the stupid things I ever said to him, including my offer to psychoanalyze him for less than the going rates out there.
I miss Dead Cat Bounce. That guy is very cool.
i find you people always constantly picking out something brooklyncentric kinda barfy. there’s a whole city out there (plus jersey city and hoboken which some could argue beats brooklyn in many things). or how about if you have to pick brooklyn, something in a non moonface neighborhood? (and crown heights DOES count as a moonface neighborhood btw)
“kinda barfy” haha. I love you *rob*. I love you. Now I gotta do some work here in Chitown.
Dont forget that brooklyn is very direction-friendly for you
i think rob might kill himself if someone opens a vinegar sammich stand at the smorg and charges like 10 bux for one
As *rob* [rolling his eyes] sighingly informed us once, vinegar sammich’s are so much more, so so much more than what one would think. and no, it is not just vinegar and bread. But he never told us exactly.
DIBS – those guys underground at Rockefeller polish shoes like there’s no tomorrow. They take 15 mins on them, so even though there’s a team of 5 guys polishing, there’s always a line. Once polished they’ll hold up for months though.
Yes, ditto, those guys are really good….and ocasionally there’s a cute one
if i were to show up none of you would believe i am actually randolph, so how could i prove it to you?
dude, I’ve seen you before. I’ll vouch for you
im sure once we heard the minnie mouse voice we’d KNOW it was you.
cuz that’s the voice i heard when i read your posts
i didnt mean to respond that to myself.
LOL you people have me SOOOOO wrong.
HA the foxy brown postal lady just came in and i totally blushed. speaking of, the real foxy brown was acquitted for mooning her nosey neighbor!!! the reason she was in trouble for mooning her neighbor was cuz her nosey busybody neighbor has a restraining order against foxy.
don’t tell foxy brown mail person you’re asexual.
i would go sex for her.
You don’t have enough money
“You don’t have enough money”
“Thurston Howell III: [pretending he's a Chief Headhunter] Moolah, moolah, moolah.”
not EVERYONE is a gold digger, dave. i know… SHOCKING!
“not EVERYONE is a gold digger, dave”
Speak for yourself, *rob*!
I am, dave, and have I mentioned lately I’m looking to be kept???
Me too, e-hubby. Of course thanks to you, I am
“the reason she was in trouble for mooning her neighbor was cuz her nosey busybody neighbor has a restraining order against foxy. ”
And that means that dumb ass foxy needs to stay away from her.
they live next door to each other. foxy’s not allowed to stick out her ass on her own stoop!? wtf ever
dogs can eat anything really. people who make a fuss about their dogs diet are doing nothing but making a fuss and totally overpaying for dog food.
randi, we will test you on things you’ve posted to be sure it’s really you. We don’t want someone nice and good looking to show up and just be a randi impersonator
I think you missed the point
randi just be warned, as these people are a tad on the judgemental side
In all seriousness, *rob*, I think most people here are among the least judgmental people I’ve ever known.
“randi just be warned, as these people are a tad on the judgemental side”
If we were, you’d be long gone, rob!!!!
Cgar, you’re white, Jewish and circumcised. What do I want with you???
So, you’ve mentioned, dave! Couldn’t resist pitching a soft ball.
Randi’s not going to come out. At this point he thinks we’re all a bunch of psychopaths. hahaha
randi := your bf from ps???
For Cat People – PetCo on 7th in the Slope has opened: good deals on several things including World’s Best Litter.
randi’s from Ft Greene, m4l.
Initially there was confusion as to whether it was male or female
I know man. I even know where he lives. I’ve met him before
why do you always say that? if so where do i live?
reference to long standing joke about delivering you chinese food.
i know but where did the basis for that joke come from?
you want me to say it here on the web or face to face when I pick you out at the gathering???
just a hint would do….
4 story bldg
there sure aren’t alot of those in ft greene!
not many as wide as your bldg
have you really met him?
is he more normal in real life than he acts here, like me???
so he hasn’t met you? I didn’t think so.
I thought everyone went out for recess and left me here in the room.
We’re here. We locked you in the broom closet
Yes, I saw your primary means of transportation in there.
And you’d better be careful with it. It’s the latest model. Was my cat in there too?
Me and Lafayette Avenue go back a long way.
When I used to take the train there to and from school in the early eighties. Put it this way, when I took the train there, the “Paris” cleaners store right there on Dekalb was actually a dry cleaners.
…and the bathroom there was something like the scene in
Trainspotting where the junkie dives into the “Dirtiest Toilet in Scotland”.
m4l with the clues!!!!!
no recess for me, but im going out on an iced coffee break soon
dont take shiiiit from that Korean lady this time
I thought you were on vacation, rob????
I was off for three days last week.
> I was off for three days last week.
I’m pretty sure you’ve been off for far longer than that.
Perhaps since birth.
OoOoOoOOoO let me go cry in the corner now :-/

Do you need help finding it?
I love intra-Asian racism!!!!
m4l must have been good at that game Battleship,

…didn’t we establish that randi is a male already?

Speaking of attractions to brad, I watched A River Runs Through It two nights ago. Man was he hot when he was young
fight club is still the best. he was shredded rip in there with his freak 8-pack or something
Part of the human physiological response to attractive individuals is a dialation of the pupils, as if they open in order to take more in.
Some celebrities are able to capture big box office simply by putting their face up there on the screen.
Here’s a great example of state beauracracy bullshit…..
MillerCoors LLC must pull 39 brands of beer from Minnesota bars, restaurants and stores because it failed to renew brand-label registrations before the state government shut down July 1, the Public Safety Department said.
The MillerCoors registration expired June 13, and although the company tried to renew it, the registration could not be processed in time before the shutdown, he said. The company filed its paperwork and two checks to cover the fee, Green said
Your cat was out drinking with MM’s cats.

drudgereport headline : Arab approval of USA plummets.
Only in the US media is it a surprise that radical islam is diametrically opposed to American values.
Here’s another headline for the media:
Many around the world would love to see the USA rot.
Many around the world would love to see the USA rot.
they leave out that it’s mostly the moonface states the rest of the world would like to see rot. california and the northeast they love.
Yeah, legion…LOL…yet it’s the country most people in the world aspire to live in
I remember there was a poll somewhere in the middle east,
I think it was in Iraq during the invasion.
The majority was against the US of course but when asked if they planned to apply for visas a large percentage said YES!
admit it *rob*
when you aren’t at work,
you probably miss the people there and the scene outside on the street.
this just makes me sick
“We knew shutting down the government in 1995 was not going to work for us. It helped Bill Clinton get reelected. I refuse to help Barack Obama get reelected by marching Republicans into a position where we have co-ownership of a bad economy,” McConnell said. “It didn’t work in 1995. What will happen is the administration will send out notices to 80 million Social Security recipients and to military families and they will all start attacking members of Congress. That is not a useful place to take us. And the president will have the bully pulpit to blame Republicans for all this disruption.”
randi, it goes both ways. You can’t sit there with your head up your ass and blame the republicans for being the only stubborn ones when the Democrats are actually being just as stubborn.
i really think Obama is trying to find the center and is 100% willing to compromise and actually give the republicans more of what they want than giving dems more of what they want.
the real problem is congress, both parties and both houses. what a bunch of buffoons.
yeah – i really can’t stand it anymore
Too true, randi.
i heard something really interesting on NPR recently about how before air travel was so easy, members of congress would move their families to DC and live there year round as opposed to now where everyone flies home for the weekend. they were saying that before when everyone was around each other more they got to know each other better, there was more trust and understanding, people’s kids went to school together, etc….and so there was more reason to compromise in congress because people saw each other as human beings not that different from themselves even if they have ideological differences.
not so much anymore.
That makes a lot of sense. Maybe it should be a requirement of being elected to COngerss.
yeah, those selfish pricks rather screw us over than to work something out. but luckily they don’t have the cajones to NOT raise the debt limit
I just asked our young, blonde office manager: “Be a doll and go get me more cheese balls, will you.”
You don’t want to know the response.
It’s ludicrous to expect to cap the debt. they can cap expenses and taxes but the debt is what pays everything.
Also, maxine Waters was again questioning Bernanke in a senate hearing and came across as a buffoon again.
She was also concerned about TALF contracts for minority forms but only black minority firms
serious DIBS, do you think that taxes NEVER have to go up again EVER??? that just makes no sense. read this
and then come back and tell my why you are right and I and the author of that op ed are wrong.
Re: Waters, she represents Watts and other poor, black communities. She would not be doing her job if she didn’t ask specifically about programs her constituents would be eligible for, want, and need. That’s why they elected her. As for doing it at the hearing,
1) do you think she’d get an apt with Bernanke otherwise?
2) what better way to show said constituents that she’s looking out for them, but national television.
Self serving, perhaps, but no worse than anyone else when given the opportunity.
My prediction is that will be a compromise that will involve higher deficits than we have now.
That’s what happened the last time around.
I’ve been attempting to distill my commentary down to essential points, the better to convey the facts.
With regards to the economy, what is happening is a clash of two ideologies.
One rooted in the free market system which has served this nation well for over 200 years.
The other rooted in redistributive “feel good ” ideologies which have been proven wrong through ample experience in other nations.
This President, with no experience in the private sector whatsoever, believes in his ideology. The problem is that he will not stand by it wholeheartedly, knowing full well that it is anathema to the majority of Americans.
Instead, we get class warfare, as predictable as the tides in both its inability to learn from the past and its degradation of the society as a whole.
you make a staggering number of assumptions here. i don’t see many facts.
when you are given the “facts”
you tend to ignore them.
Exactly- “facts.” facts as you’ve interpreted them or culled them from other sources. You have your own problem with ignoring facts.
I think you oversimplify and you certainly don’t understand the President. He is nothing if not pragmatic. His thing has always been to make government work, not get bogged down in partisan fighting. The fact that he hasn’t been able to accomplish that says more about the evils of partisanship than his experience in the private sector. And don’t say it is an anathema to the majority of Americans. A majority of Americans voted him into office, in part because we wanted a government that could set aside partisanship. This is the majority that you and other Republicans have chosen to ignore since the election.
A majority of Americans voted him into office
LMFAO!!!!!! you DO realize, a majority of us dont EVEN vote, and dont bother cuz it’s stupid, right?
if you don’t vote you don’t get a voice so STFU.
i can’t believe you would even wear that as a badge or something. i mean its a cliche but people really do DIE for the right to vote and you sit there and mock the idea of it?!
I agree with randi.
[Hole tears in fabric of universe]
see this is what i mean. dave and I could not be more different ideologically (and in mental capacity if you asked dave) but since we live together on the OT we are able to sometimes find common ground.
no turdface, they died for our right to vote if we WANT. BIG difference.
i meant around the world people continue to die for the chance to have what we have and you mock the whole thing.
and if you don’t agree with any of the candidates ever about anything then you should sack up and run for office your self. THAT is what the system was designed to allow.
and if you don’t agree with any of the candidates ever about anything then you should sack up and run for office your self. THAT is what the system was designed to allow.
my past is too checkered for that crap. besides why would i wanna represent a bunch of morons?
“besides why would i wanna represent a bunch of morons?”
nevermind. you are more hopeless than i am.
> why would i wanna represent a bunch of morons?
Understood, representing just the one of you seems to be a full-time job.
The really stupid people don’t vote but spend their time on the OT bitching that poor people get more from the government than they do.
doesnt matter wtf is elected poor people are still always gonna TAKE TAKE TAKE. they always have, and always will. same with the rich. nothing will change that except a full on revolution where people in the middle wash the streets with the blood of the poor and the rich. (but lets not kill the ultra mega rich, they kinda rock)
I can’t even begin to answer you because you are so wrong in so many ways. You don’t want to vote- fine rob. Then don’t bi tch that you don’t like the way the country is run. Just remember everytime you post some ridiculous opinion on the OT, it’s our system of government that protects your right to post. It’s call democracy and by not voting you are simply sponging off the rest of us who care enough to vote and try to change things for everyone.
Better yet- go to some repressive country like Saudi Arabia and then come back and tell me how stupid the right to vote is.
democracy at it’s CORE is about us having the RIGHT to not vote if we want. democracy also means we are allowed to say whatever the hell we want in this country, tho that is slowly diminishing as the years go on…
Wrong rob- democracy is all about the fight to give us the right to vote. People came here because they wanted to be free and have a say in their government- something they weren’t allowed in Europe. Pick up a history book, wouldya?
People came here because they wanted to be free and have a say in their government- something they weren’t allowed in Europe.
weird. i thought my GREAT-grandmother came here to get knocked up 13 times and be the town trollop. she never voted btw.
also my grandfather’s mother who came here from ireland… never voted btw. neither did he. never once in life. he was against politics as well.
so stfu before you presume to know how everylone lives and what they came to america for.
seems like ignorance and pigheadedness runs in the family.
then stfu about why people vote since you don’t know and you never have.
i will NEVER STFU until the day im dead, so keep on dreaming honey chile!
No matter to me. You’re the one looking damaged. Honey chile.
LMFAO at least i admit my “damage”.
wow you are a moron. im not saying “the right to vote is stupid” im saying people telling ME that people who dont vote is stupid. it’s not, it’s what this country is founded on.
vote this *sticking up both middle fingers*
Moron- coming from you that’s meaningless. And no- that wasn’t what you said although it seems your command of english is deteriorating along with your argument.
Stick as many fingers in the air as you want, rob. You’re still a fool. And ignorant.
randi, you need to understand the relationship between the economy and tax revenues.
As the economy grows, so do revenues. there’s no need for tax increases.
As the economy frows 2-4%, so do revenues.
Focus on measures to get theeconomy growing, maybe even BY CUTTTING TAXES.
Andno, that author does not understand the relationship either. As he calls them, “stalwart economists” usually understand the relationship
That’s why deficits rise in weak economic times and fall during strong. it’s simple and it’s cyclical.
And legion is right about the two ideologies.
People in general, here in the US don’t realize the uniqueness of a transfer of power without struggle. Armed, ugly struggle that is.
We’ve grown accustomed to believing that the American system is the norm throughout the world and that conflicting ideologies can just work it out with reasoned debate.
Sure both parties are to blame to a certain extent. To a larger extent, we have politicians who will not stand by their core beliefs, at least to the point where they actually state them.
Doesn’t help that our media, which is empowered by the constitution to balance these conflicts out, is sleeping on the job.
Any journalists reading this should look at their role allowing this ongoing downward spiral to continue.
If they would only ask the hard and vital questions as they are supposed to, then maybe we could get some more accountality from our elected officials.
Here’s a start:
“Mr. President, you stated that this would happen if you did that, where was the miscalculation in your administration, and how are they being held accountable?”
Yeah- too bad they never did that with Bush and his administration, isn’t it?
The tide changed, bxgrl and the “new majority” delivered the “shellacking”
Those were local elections dave. The President was still elected by a majority in the national election. And the tide may be changing back- not only has Obama’s fundraising far outstripped any of the Republicans, but some of the local elections are now turning back to Democrats.
ugh more politics. bring some bongos..
as i said yesterday (and was refuted by no one) – tax rates as percent of GDP are the lowest they have been in 60 years.
exactly. bush tax cuts expire in 2013. that will help.
“Mr. President, you stated that this would happen if you did that, where was the miscalculation in your administration, and how are they being held accountable?”
This would be typical of an analytical question asked of a corporate management that was not delivering. It should be used in politics as well.
The problem is that the media is not analytical, not thinking. They are reporters, if that, perhaps more yellow journalists than we care to believe.
“He is nothing if not pragmatic”
Clinton was pragmatic,
this guy is dogmatic.
How else to explain pushing through the healthcare bill against bipartisan opposition?
legion- he’s not. What did he do? Stand over every congressman and threaten to take way their toys? Please. Think these statements through.
Dogmatic is your issue- not his.
Bush isn’t president anymore, bxgrl.
And, there was far more harsh criticism of Bush than there is of Obama, analytical or not
We were talking about the press asking questions, were we not? At least Bush was nominally treated with the respect of his office by Congress. No one called him a liar on national television during a state of the union address. No- that took a Republican.
Clinton was pragmatic,
this guy is dogmatic.
Ridiculous. His healthcare package was watered down to the point that it hasn’t even taken place yet. If he was the dogmatic ideologue that you accuse him of being, he wouldn’t have compromised on that, or any thing else. My biggest complain about the man is that he’s bent over backwards to be bi-partisan, and it has done nothing but earn him the contempt and scorn of the people he’s reached out to. And to add insult to injury, no matter how often he reaches out, they accuse him of not doing so.
Those people, btw, have been nothing but rude, obnoxious, and disrespectful to him personally, and more importantly, to the office of the presidency. People on the left may have disliked, disagreed with, or even hated Bush, but they rarely disrespected the office. They publicly stood behind the office, even when they were not in agreement with the policy. Today’s “leaders” have no such respect, and to a man and woman, do not deserve to be sitting where they are sitting.
exactly…..remember the “YOU LIE!” incident at his state of the union?! unbelievable.
your statement about tax rates being the lowest in 60 years as a percentage of GDP misses two major points here:
-no one says the Republicans are for doing away with taxes,
they are proposing not increasing them in this economically perilous time.
-Our spending as a percentage of the yearly budget is the main problem right now. It’s about 120% in fact.
That’s why we are faced with trillion dollar deficits.
Stop the spending first,
the ship is sinking.
Then get back to the pork when the ship is righted.
i don’t agree – republicans (except the hallowed regan, who actually raised them) have always stood by their “cutting taxes” mantra
if you look at the graph i provided yesterday showing gov’t spending as % of gdp throught us history – spending has always drastically increased around times of economic instability in the united states.
I would love a better replacement for Obama. So who is that better replacement who’ll run?
Palin? Bachmann? What makes you think a replacement would be able to do better? Not in this politically poisoned system of government.
country in the crapper. partisan gridlock. I’m to the point, I might even consider giving Palin a shot as the current situation is not good enough for me.
Palin- first of all, you’re joking. second of all, the President is not the emperor. Partisan gridlock is not his fault nor is it in the power of any one individual to break it. It means changing our system of politics and I doubt McCain would have fared better. Palin? What a joke.
my point is I don’t give an F whose fault, what party the person is from etc. I just want results. if the current set of folks aint doing it and doesn’t seem to give confidence to do it, I’m open to idea to let some new faces get into the mix. If Obama says this F’ing partisan gridlock can’t be hurdled, then why not let the crazy bitchhh a shot. and if Obama can hurdle it, then just go freaking do it already. Don’t worry about the freaking election in 2012. Just handle your business right here, right now.
Ridiculous M4L- give Palin a shot and this country won’t survive another 4 years. Partisan gridlock won;t end until both sides decide they care more about the country than about their party. Palin has neither the chops nor the cojones to accomplish that. Crazy is just crazy.
if gridlock so so freaking unbreakable, she won’t be able to do any damage as nothing gets done like today. it’s not even palin per se but that if current situation aint working out, I’m open to fresh faces – even Palin.
Palin isn’t competent to be President. Please already.
that aint the point. the point is if current folks can’t bring forth the results then we should be open to new faces and if somehow the country picks Palin, I’m open for it. Again, I’m just looking for results. explanations might be good for history books but it aint the results I’m looking for
New faces fine. But new competent faces. Palin is not.
I prefer someone else but if the majority of the country votes for her, I’m open for it. I’m desperate for results now
“Exactly- “facts.” facts as you’ve interpreted them or culled them from other sources. You have your own problem with ignoring facts.”
What facts am I ignoring?
The Debt/GDP ratios?
The unemployment rate?
The misery index?
The yearly budget deficits?
The real unemployment rate?
Gallup poll results on consumer sentiment?
Both sides can present “facts” to bolster their points- that’s a fact -without quote marks.
“if you look at the graph i provided yesterday showing gov’t spending as % of gdp throught us history – spending has always drastically increased around times of economic instability in the united states.”
if you don’t vote you don’t get a voice so STFU.
no, YOU stfu. when one CHOOSES not to vote it just as important as someone who DOES vote. you do realize MOST people vote for whoever they think is cuter / sexier / who they identify with more / and what that person will get for them once elected / and will they protect the status quo of their lifestyle. i dont partake in that baloney, so i dont vote. and besides they are ALL fugly and none of them stand for anything i believe in. why would i cast a vote? that’s called being phoney, not being an american.
you really are a child.
You really don’t understand the meaning of democracy. It’s a shame. And no- choosing not to vote is NOT as important as choosing to vote. It’s just a lot dumber. Your vote is your voice. So since you choose not to use it, STFU already.
Your vote is your voice. So since you choose not to use it, STFU already.
lfmao you really are a dumb twatwaffle arent you. you sound like a ridiculous MTV PSA.
twatwaffle is pretty offensive but apparently too next level for the DISQUS filters. what about if i just write TWAT…..
I assume you’re referring to robb?
Rob- nice one. Just because you haven’t the brains or the wit to come up with a good counter reply, you call names. Doesn’t do much for your cred- no one is going to read your post and think, gee, robb is such an intellect. In fact, you come off like a miserable human being with serious educational lacks.
if Perry, Christie, and whomever else deemed juicy would run, are they the lead pack (over current batch) for the republicans?
wouldn’t it be hilarious if someone bachmann gets elected and bans sites like silverdaddies?
Even funnier- makes it mandatory for them to go to her husband’s “clinic” and pray away the gay.
Yes, you can say whatever you want but to have it taken seriously is a different matter
sometimes I wish Obama would take a page from our Rob here via:
I can’t be bothered with worrying about re-election in 2012. Love me or hate me, I’m just going to do it as I see fit while I’m in office and then let history rate me in hindsight.
I did refute your claim yesterday, and your own statement is confusing. As I said yesterday, tax rates have not changed since the early part of the GW Bush administration, yet total tax receipts as a percentage of GDP is lower now because of the economy. In other words, tax rates and tax receipts as a percentage of GDP are not necessarily correlated.
As for spending as a percentage of GDP: we are at the second-highest point in history. The highest point was WWII, for obvious reasons. It has nothing to do with recessions.
That’s all – I’m staying out of these “discussions”.
Because of the economy? I thought tax revenue and GDP were UP despite the economy (well, that’s what DIBS says).
yes – we know spending is very high now. but it was pretty damn high 4 years ago, and the increase seems acceptable considering much of the spending was to stabilize the economy.
As Billy Joel put it:
“We didn’t start the fire”
The debate has been raging since Hamilton dissed Burr and way before that even.
You people have disrespected the word “moron.” Use it when you mean it and don’t toss it around like some small talk.
> You people have disrespected the word “moron.”
True. Calling *rob* a moron is an insult to morons everywhere.
totally agree with your statement about here and now.
As I keep stating,
everyone, including the administration is talking disaster ahead.
Why don’t they all do the right thing then and get the job done now.
I could live anywhere where ther is a stock market and a low tax rate, and unlimited internet access.
move to Angola.
that’s what the left is all up in arms about?
As if Bush wasn’t called names by Reid and Pelosi.
Do we really want to go there,
comparing who was disrespected?
That’s exactly the point about getting the job done, NOW.
Yes, I want to go there, because Reid and Pelosi NEVER disrespected the office the way this new crop of “angry conservatives” have. And these are the people who want to get into people’s bedrooms to legislate what they are doing, and think they are all so ballsy and tough and speaking for the people that they don’t have to act like civil members of society. They are so rapid in their ideology that they’ve forgotten their civics lessons, as well as the manners their parents were supposed to have taught them.
It IS important, because it’s just another indication of how polarizing politics has become. I’m not a special fan of the early 60′s, and am not yearning for the days of “Mad Men”, but I gotta say one thing about that time. The ideological differences were probably just the same, but people knew how to function in a room together, and men from different parties could speak civilly to each other, and even socialize. That would be impossible today.
It confuses me that people on the right/Bachmann want to legislate what happens in people’s bedrooms. Isn’t that antithetical to smaller government?
I kinda like “twatwaffle” It’s got a certain ring to it.
randi i know morons, you can’t just call anyone that
you have called me a moron and idiot at least a dozen times this month alone!!!
And yet you still don’t get the point.
I know quite a few imbeciles who would be quite pleased to be considered morons.
like a care what you MORONS think of me and my belief and value system.
shove it, not everyone is like you, wants to be like you, or even likes what this lame-o country (Earth in fact) stands for.
are you on a ledge or bridge or something right now? should one of us call 911?
I don’t like the boys. Morocco, maybe.
LOL! I love it when Rob gets into his political *beliefs*!
RuHRoh, hall monitor is here
If you mean me, I really cannot understand why you and whoever else call me that. I don’t censor people. I’m hardly even here lately!
jackass. : P
Please, rob already has a political office. He’s king of the Know-Nothings, the Don’t-ever-wanna-learn-anythings, and the,the Miserable-Self-Loathing Ignoramuses.
It’s a huge country, and who better to lead?
stop jumping all over *rob*
it makes you all look like a pack of angry extremists.
i just chalk it up to a typical hall monitors + randi dogpile. all i see is a bunch of fraggles smacking their gums.
> stop jumping all over *rob*
Are you kidding me? THIS is what he lives for.
Ding ding ding! Someone pour that man a martini! ; )
> stop jumping all over *rob*
> it makes you all look like a pack of angry extremists.
Not to mention, I’ve got a case of torches and pitchforks from Overstock.com I’ve been dying to crack open.
Too late, I was just out in your garage unpacking them! The torches are nice, the pitchforks aren’t quite big enough though! ; )
Are they sharp enough though?
Gimme a minute, I’m deciding who to skewer first!
I have a list
Come sit over here by me…we can compare notes…
I’ll bring drinks. Snarky, you’re invited
> I’ll bring drinks. Snarky, you’re invited
I’ll bring the torches. They’re filled with tequila.
> the pitchforks aren’t quite big enough though! ; )
Size queen. I knew I should have gone to Just Pitchforks.
Hey, When I prick someone, I wanna prick ‘em good! : P
> Hey, When I prick someone, I wanna prick ‘em good! : P
Something, you, DIBS and I can all agree on.
But the torches are good. Did you order extra butane?
Honey, screw the butane…we’re going flame-thrower gasoline! : P
is it me or is the site humming along all the sudden?
Grammar, randi, grammar
Why are people being so vicious towards someone expressing their opinion?
*rob* doesn’t agree so for some reason he must be marginalized.
He’s marginalized because he calls people names and tells them they’re stupid. So he gets treated the same way he acts.
Well, he managed to be more than a little vicious in expressing them.
Why are people being so vicious towards someone expressing their opinion?
hypocrites… tho im sure i could say i think the sky is blue today and still get pounced on.
cause and effect rob. cause and effect. It’s a concept you should know by now.
exactly. often times stuff is about cause & effect instead of right & wrong. us smart aware hubbies know this difference real well
I should have a talk with your wife
I don’t care if he votes or not. Chances are his vote would be for Snoopy or L’il Kim anyway, so the fact that he stays home is a blessing.
I don’t like his name calling, I don’t like his telling people who question his positions to STFU. He can’t play well with others unless he’s the center of attention, and he’s an angry, bitter human being.
That’s MY opinion, which I am equally entitled to air.
i responded with a STFU to bxgirl cuz she said it to me first (seriously). then saying it just started to sound fun, so ill say stfu to you too. and i would NEVER vote for Snoopy.
AFTER you said it to other people. And not only today. YOu say it to someone nearly every day.
did you steal my 500?
> did you steal my 500?
Sorry, I think that was me.
Add me to your list.
I can’t- you have the torches and pitchforks.
btw, have we ever had a presiding president get challenged by a candidate from his own party and unseeded the president to go to the general elections?
Carter was challenged early on by Ted Kennedy I believe for the second term nomination.
Bachmann really no more wants to legislate what happens in the bedroom than anyone. that’s just some of her idiocy that the media focuses on.
she was the first to sign that ridiculous “contract.” the media is right to focus on it. ot to mention, as Pawlenty pointed out, despite ehr big talk, she hasn’t actually done much.
Baloney. Then why sign that silly a$$ statement?
ugh – i just wikipediaed GDP and there’s a lot more stuff in there then i remember!
dh, the more important point is that for all the extra spending, IT HAS NOT boosted the economy, which is my primary gripe.
it has been poorly focused or not focused at all
And the current energy policy is a disaster
Monday morning quarterback.
Yeah, it hasn’t worked – and until I hear some sort of plan from the right that doesn’t sound like it came from a Dickens novel then I will continue to be unconvinced anyone over there is worthy of sitting in the drivers’ seat of this country.
is unconvinced a word? inconvinced ?
I vote for the former
unconvinced is right Er…correct.
let’s go there then MM
here’s Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D)
calling Bush a liar in 2004:
Did you happen to read all the way to the bottom?
Fine, he called him a liar. He shouldn’t have. He did not stand up in a major speech given by the president of the United States, and scream “liar”. One wrong does not give a pass to another.
I’ll meet you half-way. Spending as a percentage of GDP does go up during a recession, and that helps stabilize things. That is fine. However, there is another issue at play: the old-age entitlements (SS, Medicare and Medicaid) are out of-control, and eating up a larger-and-larger percentage of the federal budget.
Has anyone watched the congressional hearing on Social Security the past few days? A senior fellow from the Urban Institute (not exactly a right-wing think tank) hit the bullseye in summing up the issue with these programs. Social Security was designed to be an OLD-AGE insurance, as was Medicare. In 1933, the average lifespan was 67 years, and SS was intended to prop up people in their last two years, when their resources and wits are dwindling. Fast forward to 2011, and what social secutiry and medicare have become are a MIDDLE-AGE RETIREMENT PROGRAM. If anyone doesn’t believe this, I suggest that they go visit any “Leisure Village” complex. Not only have SS and Medicare become retirement programs, they have morphed into this state at a time when people have fewer kids to pay for it. Not sustainable. The Democrats are demagouguing this issue, and they know it. How many times are they going to claim that ANY attempt to reform these programs is akin to throwing grandma under the bus?
oh dear me. What a gigantic food fight. I see that things have gone steadily downward since I challenged randi to a dual and offered to take *rob* to the gym. Let’s have a party at a restaurant at a place that let’s us have a food fight. We can have it out. We can start with rolls and graduate to soft foods and dessert.
I did my work for the day. Chicago is sunny, breezy and in the high 70s. It is one of the most beautiful days ever.
I am going to the Art Institute now. Carry on. Nobody get hurt now….
“That is fine. However, there is another issue at play: the old-age entitlements (SS, Medicare and Medicaid) are out of-control, and eating up a larger-and-larger percentage of the federal budget.”
no argument from me there. so fix it!! stop nickle and diming old poor blind people because you are scared of taking an unpopular stance and don’t want to risk not getting elected in 2012!!!
Agreed. Neither side is willing to take the whole thing, spread it out on the table and look to see how it can be improved for the future. That’s short sighted and bad for everyone.
getting back to your statements about Taxation/GDP ratio,
you are also leaving out an important philosophical point.
Isn’t it the idea of this nation, even from its inception, to limit the role of government in our lives?
Shouldn’t we be applauding the move away from taxation assuming your graph is correct.
Shouldn’t our government be doing its job without asking more and more from its citizens. Taxation is a form of oppression, by its very nature, it seeks to hold human beings accountable for their commerce and interactions.
This is, of course, necessary to a certain extent.
But I’ll re-state what I said yesterday, why can’t the government get by on a paltry 3-4 trillion a year?
Better yet, reduce reckless spending.
