Union Hotel, the new lodging house on Degraw Street between 3rd and 4th avenues, opened a little over a week ago. Rates are running between $119 and $179 a night, according to the person manning the front desk yesterday. The 43-room property has positioned itself as a boutique hotel, and its website says amenities include “imported exotic coffees” and “HDTV LCD TV’s.” By our reckoning, this is the sixth hotel to call Gowanus home. The seventh will be the nearby Fairfield Inn on 3rd Avenue, which should be opening soon.

  1. Fourth Avenue is in close proximity to what?
If I was a tourist in NYC and I ended up on Fourth Avenue, I would not be impressed with the amenities or the convenience of the location. This hotel could only appeal to visting memebrs of drug cartels and perhaps released inmates who want to make a gradual transition from prison life.
