The house at 65 South Elliott Place in Fort Greene was in pretty lousy condition when it was featured as a House of the Day last July. At the time, it was on the market for $869,000. (The pre-Civil War wood-frame had been abandoned for several years before being put up for sale.) The home ended up selling in March of this year for its asking price, and its owners presented renovation plans to CB2’s Landmarks Committee last week. What’s in store? A full restoration of the front facade based on the property’s original tax photo, which involves installing new wooden doors, replacing the windows, and building a new roof for the front porch. The owners also intend to build a 12-foot addition on the back of the house. The exterior will sport a “historical cream color.” CB2 approved the application, and now the plans need to be OK’d by the LPC. Click through for a few close-ups of the house right now….

  1. When they finish they will have a very valuable property that will also serve to further enhance the block. The bones are all there, the restoration should be straight forward like hundreds of others that have been undertaken in the area during its transformation from marginal to desirable.

  2. Glad they are going to restore it. There is a group of buildings on Pacific between NY and Brooklyn Aves that this reminds me of, with the porches. I love that group. Think it’s not as early as these are though.
