Park Slope
This week’s big news comes to us from Brooklyn Based: Fleisher’s Grass-fed and Organic Meats is moving into 192 5th Avenue, at Berkeley. There will be frozen prepared foods and cut meat and the shop “will have a really old-fashioned, old-school butcher feel with a kid’s corner and stroller parking (it is Park Slope after all!)” It should be open by September. In other news, Here’s Park Slope reports that gourmet falafel is coming to 446 Dean, Butter Lane has a DOB violation on its in-construction storefront, Shoe Mine is closed and Met Life is moving into the gallery space at 200 7th.

Prospect Heights
Ample Hill Creameries, which we checked out last month, is open today, says Prospect Heights Patch. Let us know if you stop in. And over in Crown Heights Brooklynian commenters are chatting about a diner coming to St. Marks and Classon Avenue. Word is it’ll be a Greek spot, expanding from Astoria. Nice addition to the nabe.

Elsewhere
Diner’s Journal brings the good news that Bark Hot Dogs will be serving at Pier 6 this summer. In Clinton Hill, Wicked Good Franks is now showing off its signage (pictured). T Magazine checks out newly opened Nights and Weekends in Williamsburg. A proposed nightclub for Gravesend isn’t sitting well with nearby Orthodox residents, reports Sheepshead Bites. Crave, a lunch/dinner/dancing spot opens in a Bed Stuy storefront that Bed Stuy Blog calls cursed. A Brooklynian commenter says that Kay Cheong and La Fe have closed in Sunset Park while another commenter notes the opening of Green Fig Cafe in the neighborhood and speaks high praises. Brooklyn Paper attends the grand opening of TJ Maxx in Bay Ridge. Finally, the Guggenheim Museum is bringing a temporary exhibit to storefront space in Downtown Brooklyn. Brooklyn Eagle says the exhibit, Stillspotting NYC, will take up space at 1 MetroTech. Cool!

  1. Just tried Ample Hills… I thought the Malted Chocolate was super creamy, kind of chewy (gelatin?), very smooth, and too sweet. I bet loads of people will love it! I sure hope they expand the flavor offerings, though. Almost everything was chocolate something, there was no sorbet (which sucked for my dairy-free friend), and there were no regular flavors (single flavor flavors like simple chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, pistachio, etc…). It was only the second night, though, so I’m anxious to see how it shapes up!

  2. Thanks for that, DanielJ! And I agree with all!!

There is something else called SweetWolf opening somewhere in the Slope too, no? Maybe same owners as Toby’s I want to say??

Want to try the new dumpling place this weekend too.

  3. Culture is fantastic! They make their own yogurt in-house, and you can get it frozen or not. Went there once before the weather turned cold & rainy and I’m looking forward to going back regularly this summer.

  4. Ha Noi is pretty good, but needs to work out some kinks. Nothing on the menu is really spectacular, and service can use some help.

Blueprint is the name of the cocktail bar, from the same owner as Sharlene’s, High Dive, and Commonwealth. Wolf and Deer is from the same owner as Miriam, and should be opening for Memorial Day.

And Culture has the best frozen (and fresh) yogurt in the city.

Park Slope is quietly becoming a foodie paradise, and it’ll be cemented when the best butcher shop in the city opens right across from Bierkraft.

  5. Also, I know people complain about the price of slices at South Brooklyn Pizza, but that shiz is GOOOOD. For a slice joint, anyway. I’ve been to the new one on 7th Avenue/1st Street like 5 times since it’s opened. And they are open super late.

  6. Two doors down from Fleishers is where that new cocktail bar is opening, I forget the name. But the new facade looks great. Another new bar opening where Total Wine bar used to be…called Wolf Deer maybe? Also right next to Fleishers is that new Thai place, Nahm Kitchen. I tried it and thought it was pretty decent.
