Yesterday No Land Grab and Curbed ran some new renderings of the Barclays Arena courtesy of the site Nets Daily. ACEOM, the parent company of arena architecture firm Ellerbe & Becket, is promising “the most exciting venue in the NBA… one of the most intimate seating configurations ever designed into a modern multi-purpose arena, with unparalleled sightlines.” Also: A champagne bar.

  1. Mean, median, and mode are all “averages,” just different ways of looking at the concept of “average.” As to the affordability of the seats, I’m sure that Ratner will keep his promise of cheap screecher seats. After all, he’s kept every promise he’s made about the AY project.

  2. gotcha grand army. yeah, i agree – not sure what yomark was thinking. not the best pr move touting that the worst team in the nba will have the highest average tkt price in the league.

  3. DH, I’m not arguing the math with you. Only saying that these numbers came from Yormark so presumably he’s trying to convince us that the tix will be more affordable, not less. Unless you think that assumption is false and he wants to frighten off the public…

  4. “Well, one can only assume the median price is higher.”

why? if the stadium has 10 seats, seats 1-9 are 10 bucks and seat 10 is a million bucks – the average price is 100k and the median is 10. “average” isn’t a useful measurement of affordability of ticket prices.

  5. From AY Yards Report

“Forest City Ratner also has pledged that there would be at least 2000 “screecher seats,” costing $15, among the 18,000 total seats for each game. So, to reach the new high average ticket price, the cheap seats would have to be offset by some very expensive ones.

Still, while the average price may leap, the median–the center value in a set of data–probably would not change as dramatically. In other words, the middle-range seats wouldn’t go up as much. [Updated] Note that the single game average ticket price would go up relatively little, 12%, while the prices for group tickets, full season, and partial season tickets would go up much more dramatically.”

  6. Well, one can only assume the median price is higher. Why else would Yormark tell the NY Post the average price is $132? It wouldn’t eaxctly be great PR to stress how expensive the tix will be -assuming he’s trying to impress the NBA-attending public rather than shareholders.
