In what’s perhaps another sign of Brooklyn’s rebounding condo market, The Real Deal reports that 170 North 5th Street in Williamsburg will be a condo, rather than a rental. The development, which until recently was stalled, will hit the market this summer. Prices on the 16 units are yet to be determined, according to the article, which notes that the mostly-built property was sold last summer.

  1. I suggest you see for yourself. If you are an early riser (which wine lover must be), the commute can be fine. In my experience, it is much more as dirty describes it. I usually don’t take the L, but when I do, it us not uncommon to let 2 or 3 trains go by just so as not to have to cram myself into a morning mosh.

  2. I lived for two years on N7th and Bedford. While walking down to the L was no further than the basement of my building, I was happy to see the back of it. The trains are modern, and at least you know how long you’ll have to hang around with the indicators. But its stressy and crowded and you generally try to get on one becuase so many things can go worng iits not worth risking waiting for the next. I’m not sure why they can’t make it run like the 7 train – that thing is like a conveyer belt. Then it’d be great. Does anyone know?

  3. “i have never ever had a problem with the L in almost 5 years getting on and off at bedford.”

well you obviously commute to the city at an off-hour, or don’t take the L in the morning. i take the L from Bedford every morning and crowding is definitely becoming an issue. hell, it takes 10 minutes to exit the station in the evening since the stairwells are so crowded.

100s, if not 1,000+ new people have moved to the new bldgs around the bedford stop this past year. more people + same train capacity = more crowded.

i agree about the J/M trains though – commute is a breeze.

  4. If you are at the bedford station before 8:30, the L is fine and it is a very flexible and quick commute. Between 8:30 and 10, its terrible and the tiniest delay or signal malfunction sets off a chain reaction that triggers horrible delays, mostly because train after train will reach beford with not even enough room for a single person to board in each car. Hopefully the subsidized ferry will take at least a little pressure off the commute.

  5. i think that is a big issue…. going to get a lot worse… room for ten thousand units in central willie-b have to run more trains, express bus over bridge to lower east side, shuttles, watertaxis, ferries….

  6. tinarina and dirty – i have never ever had a problem with the L in almost 5 years getting on and off at bedford. it’s fast and has constant times posted when it’s coming. it’s been rated one of the best trains in the city.

if you work downtown, then consider the J or the M. i take either to work a lot of days, but always the L home. my commute is so easy and fast, that saying it’s a negative about living in WB is silly to me. also, you can walk over the bridge which i do too.
