A former bodega near the corner of Lorimer and Metropolitan is sporting a sign on its window showing that it’ll be home to a new Bagelsmith, which has another location on Bedford Ave. The reader who tipped us off to this opines that Bagelsmith has the “best bagels in the neighborhood by a long shot.” Either way, opening a bagel store near the entrance of a subway stop seems like a pretty good bet. I am the reader who sent this in. Talk about zaftig: about a month ago I helped a friend move into an apartment directly across the street from this new Bagelsmith. My friend is a young Palestinian lady and her predecessor in the apartment was a young German lady.
Damn.Back in the 80’s about 2 AM one rainy night, I exited the train there because it had stopped running. I went into that (former) bodega and bought a Tropicana in a glass bottle so I could break it and wave it around like a maniac if anybody f***** with me. It took Black Pearl about an hour to get over there to pick us up. It was more like Blade Runner than Sex and the City.
Geez. A bagel store. Zaftig and comfy.
