The rehab of the landmark former Lamm Institute at 110 Amity Street in Cobble Hill is finally on the horizon, and plans call for dividing the building into three separate “brownstone” units. An architect representing 110 Amity’s three joint buyers presented the plans at last night’s Community Board 6 Landuse meeting. (We heard the property sold for $3.6 million, but the deed has yet to hit public records.) The architect intends to work with a wall already running through the middle of the 14,000-square-foot building and divide it into three homes, each with their own entryway; one entirely new entryway will be created on the corner of Henry and Amity. Heavy wood paneled doors, aluminum-clad windows, and a higher security fence are also planned. A minor rooftop addition, which will be five feet wider than the one the LPC already approved, is part of the project as well. The design is supposed to be presented to the LPC next month, and after that the new owners want to begin construction—which they don’t think will take more than a year—as soon as possible. The CB6 committee ultimately approved the proposal; one member commented that the design was “sensitive, intelligent, and thoughtful.” And despite hearing otherwise, word at the meeting was that the three lots on Henry are still for sale. The empty lot on Amity, though, is apparently breaking ground soon.

  1. After observing a very large piece of machinery scooping up buckets of earth behind the construction fence on the Amity Street lot two weeks ago I would conclude that ground has already been broken.
