Construction at the old walk-in medical center on the corner of Clinton and Atlantic got under way this fall, and at the time we were told it would soon be a cafe. We just spotted a sign on the window that offers up some more details. The “Bagels and Bakery Empire” will feature Montreal-style bagels (looks like a trend is beginning!), bread, cakes, pastries, coffee, tea, and smoothies. It’ll serve breakfast and lunch all day long. An opening date can’t be too far off…

We could have branded Brooklyn Bagels with water from the Gowanus. A variation on boiled in oil.

Jessi, everything that is imported from Canada is stale, including Montreal bagels and my humour.
The issue is that what makes Montreal bagels unique is they are made with the water from the St. Lawrence River. The taste and quality of all bagels depend on the water used.
So you can have fresh imitation Montreal bagels made in NYC or authentic stale Montreal bagels brought down from Quebec.
I learned a new French word the other day… rassemblement.
Un rassemblement means a rally. it’s fun to say.
