Just the other day we caught the HoodRich building at 812 Pacific Street going down. And now its neighbor at 540 Vanderbilt Avenue, one of two in the area with vintage Hot Bird signage, will soon suffer a similar fate. It looks like it has been chipped away from the top and gutted from the inside. Like we already mentioned, this will someday be arena parking.

  1. Break down of AY blocks…

Atlantic to Pacific, 4th to Flatbush: Currently PC Richards and Modell’s, will be towers.

Atlantic to Pacific, Flatbush to 6th:
Was rail yard, now under construction, will house area and other towers, plus subway entrance and temporary plaza.

Pacific to Dean, Flatbush to 6th: Was private, now under construction, will house area and other towers.

Atlantic to Pacific, 6 to Carlton : Was half private, half yard. Now half private, half yard, will be towers with yard underneath.
I’m not sure when the demotion will start here and what the interim use will be. My guess would be construction staging.

Pacific to Dean, 6 to Carlton : Private, not part of AY project at all

Atlantic to Pacific, Carlton to Vanderbilt : Was bus storage and yard access track. Currently rail yard. Will be towers with yard underneath.

Pacific to Dean, Carlton to Vanderbilt : Was private, now mostly demolished, will be temporary parking, then towers.

  2. I keep trying to think of things that the parking lot could be that would make it less awful.

Skating area? Informal dog run? Asphalt picnic area for McDonald’s? Tailgating party zone in preparation for the arena that is not yet built? Giant chalk drawing craft area for local tots? Lover’s lane for local youths with cars? Brooklyn Flea expansion? Car wash? Outdoor bowling?
