A reader sent us some photos of the HoodRich Building at 812 Pacific Street near Vanderbilt getting demolished over the holidays. We went by yesterday to check on it and it was already levelled. ACRIS shows this building was part of a much larger acquisition by ESDC including 540-546 Vanderbilt Avenue (home of some Hot Bird signage). Both are being demolished to make way for arena parking. But it was managed by municipal employees, so it’s all the same.
Jugs, very few capital construction projects are done by municipal employees and the LIRR terminal was not.
Yes, the MTA – not Ratner – handled the LIRR entrance. As everyone knows, unionized govt workers can NEVER complete a project on time or within budget.
Did FCR build the new LIRR entrance? I thought that was an MTA job and just connected onto the Ratner mall.
How long before we can park cars in the parking lot? Not that I have one, but it will be interesting to see how long it takes Ratner to construct a parking lot. I am still so impressed with the ten years he spent building the doors to the LIRR.
Think he can break that record? 15 years before they put in those little parking lines? Finish smoothing the asphalt?
how long before we can declare the parking lot blighted and put up a three-story building on it?
For dibs to be “hoodrich” he would have to live in the smurf houses and own an Escalade with 24in chrome rims.
david, aren’t you “hoodrich” ?
*rob*
If that other building comes down, how will rob know how to get to Hotbird????
