We guess there is a limit to how far developers can abuse the Alt-1 filing as a back door to putting up a new building! When we saw 200 Smith Street coming down without a demolition permit, we thought something might be amiss. Turns out something was. Despite the fact that the Alt-1 permit that was filed only specified a “proposed horizontal enlargement at 3rd floor” (and not any demolition), the building was virtually razed. (Check out the photo on the jump to see how far they got.) And though it took them a few weeks to catch on, as Pardon Me For Asking reported yesterday, DOB ended up slapping the site with a Full Stop Work Order.

  1. no loss. was pretty ugly bldg. Hope they get permits straightened out and something better goes up quickly….else we have another stalled construction site for years (like couple blocks south of this ) and the big one up on Court where union bldg was.
