I’ve been seeing a lot of this sign design on the newer delis — makes me miss the yellow flashing-light deals that used to be in fashion. These new ones, with the chrome and red lettering remind me of car wash signs.
gourmet is just coded language for “we dont sell loosies”

The phrase “gourmet deli” is about as overused as “luxury condo.”
Well it could be “gourmet” in the same way that a new deli near me on Putnam and Franklin is “organic” ie it isn’t but sign may attract a few curious potential customers who leave disappointed but with a can of soda….
is it a gourmet deli because it says “gourmet” on the sign?
