Brooklyn sure is getting its fair share of weird weather this fall. Last month it was a tornado, and then last night it was a hailstorm that, according to one tipster who sent in photos, included pellets that were two inches wide! (The Post describes “marble- to quarter-sized” pieces of hail.) The video above was sent in by a reader in Prospect Heights, and some more photos from readers are posted on the jump. Gothamist also has a ton of photos and videos posted here.

  1. Sweeping the sidewalk this morning was like shoveling snow — but leaves instead. My backyard is trashed: even the wisteria took a beating and that’s one tough cookie. The plants in a container on the deck were snapped right off at the base, like something out of Carrie.

  2. My gutters overflowed in a matter of seconds so parts of my deck got about a foot of hail between roof overflow and general insanity.

Shredded my grill cover. Thankfully my tenant thought to cover the motorcycles so no damage there. Truly bizarre.

  3. I have two inches of water in my basement and some guys are here to pump it out. (It’s contained to a 12′ square concrete basin.) $500 + $125 for the “mildew protection option”. (How can I say no?) I’m sure I’m getting ripped off. Does anybody know anything?

  4. The hail storm in Crown Heights was just freakish. One minute we had a light rain, the next minute hail the size of hazelnuts are smashing against the windows and they sounded like they were going to break the skylight. Then we had torrential rain and some of the scariest lightning I’ve ever seen. Twenty minutes later, silence. This morning, as Hal said, leaf salad everywhere.

Noooo, there’s nothing different about the weather, it’s all just a normal cycle. Right.

  5. Anyone been over to Prospect Park yet? Any damage? The weather was great late last week and a huge tree still fell over onto the west drive sometime during the weekend.

Our garden is completely destroyed, and the leaves are stripped off the tops of all the trees on our block. Fall foliage season is going to suck.

    WTF is going on?
