miracle-grill-small-092010.jpgApparently no Chipotle for the old Miracle Grill spot! We passed along a rumor a little while ago about the possibility of the burrito chain moving to 222 7th Avenue in Park Slope. Brooklyn Paper did a little digging and reports that there are no burritos in storefront’s future, according to Chipotle corporate. Now that we don’t have any rumors to work off of, what would you like to see in that space?

  1. ICE CREAM PARLOR.
Old-fashioned, but not agonizingly hip-“retro.” Like Hinsch’s in Bay Ridge, but with better ice cream.
But not “artisanal,” $7-a-plate lavender-and-cumin-flavored ice cream, or gelato. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, strawberry, butter pecan, and maple walnut.
With counter service, and real soda jerks who know how to make egg creams, lime rickeys, and grilled cheese sandwiches. (Like Tom’s on Washington Avenue.)
And not panini made with hyperlocal chevre. Grilled cheese.
And when you order a thick shake, half comes in a glass, and the other half is in that slightly dented metal blender cup that is seemingly infinite in its mysterious depths.
Considering how well that crappy Carvel did when it was across the street, at the stroller crossroads of the universe, this would be: A License to Print Money.

  2. What was Minsky’s? I’m from Kansas City originally (and live just down the block from where Miracle Grill used to be), and there’s a great pizza place there by the same name that played a big part in my childhood. Mmmm, Minsky’s…

  3. Nam was AWFUL–I was happy to see it closed after paying over $10 for the ONLY kind of Pho on their menu.

I preferred traveling to Bayard street in Chinatown to dining on that dreck in my ‘hood. Since then, I have discovered a decent Vietnamese place in Sunset Park.

Unfortunately, rents on 7th do not bode well for “cheap eats” unless they have amazing volume.

It’s a pretty small space for any restaurant without high prices and the economy to support it. The deck is a draw, though. Still not sure how El Barrio is staying afloat–their prices are high enough but their food is mediocre at best.

  4. can’t they just bring back Miracle Grill and remember to actually update the menu? I loved that place when it was new.

That corner has bad feng shui and I think the post-minsky’s renovation that put in all that glass did not help. It would be nicer to have it a bit more cozy and shielded from the corner and bus stop.

I do like the patio they built though even if I’d never sit there.
