Okay, we’ll admit this one-bedroom was chosen as Rental of the Day mostly because 233 Garfield is Park Slope’s pink brownstone, making this listing the opportunity to “Live in a legend,” as the broker puts it. The pictures of the interior are scarce and unimpressive and we don’t have any square footage info, but when this brownstone was HOTD we did report that it has “all of its architectural details in place” even if the interior was a little rough around the edges. What do you think of the $2,000-a-month rent?

  1. Sorry for late response. The North Slope apts are rented and renovated within the past 3 years. Nice enough for me to live in; I’d think for 95% of others out there would agree as well. Neither dark nor dingy. If they ever come up vacant, I’ll make sure to mention it here first.

  2. Mr. Henry’s taxes are low (and his house is pink) because he’s owned it FOREVER, since before landmarking. The house was already pink when the block was landmarked, so it was grandfathered in. Now, even to change it back, he’d need landmarks permission (which they would give in a heartbeat, of course, if it was to be restored to its original brownstone). I don’t know which floor this apartment is on, but the one on the top floor was on the market for about 5 months last year, and wound up going for $1600 I think – again, no dishwasher or w/d in the building, and the apartment sorely needed renovation.

    I happen to love this building and find it odd that so many people are horrified about it. It’s pink. So what? Ever heard of live and let live?

    If it were being painted today (that’s one thing) as it goes against Landmarks, but the dude painted it years and years ago when you could do what you wanted with your own property.

    I can understand not liking it if you are such a diehard fan of perfect brown buildings, but to say it makes you nauseous? Please, get a life if that’s the case.
