  1. I also don’t have a direct stake in this issue… well, other than wanting to live in a country that respects equal protection of law (not some lala land equity… just equal protection under the law!)

If I ever marry, my spouse will have a vagina… well, unless DIBS will have me! But this doesn’t mean I don’t recognize the perversion of law.

Like I said, the only way to make a provision of law not apply to ALL is to either (a) repeal the 14th Amendment or (b) create another amendment that clearly qualifies who is excluded from the Equal Protection clause.

  2. etson, I don’t really have an iron in this fire either. I doubt I’ll ever get married. i do have a Partneship Agreement on file with the City of Philadelphia for certain financial reasons but other than that, everything I want to accomplish can be done through my Will and trusts.

  3. BC, tell me you understand the difference between a religious ceremony and a civil marriage. Also, tell me you have at least a rudimentary understanding of the difference between church and state.

You’ve answered none of my questions so, besides exhibiting a fair amount of stupidity here, you also seem to be an immature jackass.

Now, get back to your ambulance chasing practice.

  4. So it is a religious thing, then. Well Mr. Im such-a smart-park-slope-lawyer, there is such a thing as separation of church and state and if you really don’t understand that, it’s not ignorance, it’s just stupidity.

Look up the definition of the two.

As predicted, you’ve given yourself away: if I don’t agree with you I am stupid. You may be a supergenius; I’ll side with every religion, and the collective wisdom of Western Civilization, thank you.

  6. BC, you’re 44. Are you married??? What’s your ethnic background? And religion???

I’m trying to come up with a cultural excuse for your apparent ignorance and stupidity.

    Work with me here.

  7. I know you’re still reading…

“You can’t marry your sister–is that unconstitutional and inhuman? Or your already-married friend, or your mother, or a child, or your dog.”

NO ONE is allowed to marry a family member.
NO ONE is allowed polygamous marriage.
NO ONE is allowed to marry (or have sex with) an animal.

This is the 14th Amendment. Equal Protection.

The law ALLOWS, SPECIFICALLY PROVIDES special protections and privileges to heterosexual couples who have signed a marriage contract. This is prima facie a violation of the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection clause…. unfortunately, it’s not treated as a prima facie violation because the arguments against same-sex marriage are FULL of non-sequitors and pleas to religion and culture.

The law is supposed to be applied CONSISTENTLY and applied fairly regardless of the majority’s current opinion. This is what the Founding Fathers intended.
