This new building at 65 Utica Avenue is something else. In a bad way. The color is one thing, the awkward window placement another. But that chimney? Maybe that’s where the church bell will go. After all, the new building permit is for assembly use (which means a church or concert hall or something along those lines). At least no one actually has to live in this thing. GMAP DOB P*Shark

“Please think about having this built on your block the next time we are having a conversation about the pros and cons of historic districts.”

Take a look at Google Streetview. Calling this block undistinguished would be a compliment.

Snarking about this building’s ugliness on Brownstoner is an appropriate response. Using the power of the state to prevent it on aesthetic grounds – never mind what possible criteria you’d use to determine what would be compatible with its surroundings – isn’t.
