According to a tipster passing by Maria’s Mexican Bistro at 669 Union Street on Friday night, there was a line of people outside but the restaurant never opened. The sign on the fire escape doesn’t bode well the for the popular spot’s future either. Anyone know any details? GMAP

  1. Not only do I have Mexican roots but I grew up along the border, and I have to say Maria’s was doing some thing right despite a lot of the negativity above. Maybe you’re ordering the wrong things. The molcajete, to be honest, left something to be desired. But the tacos, tostadas and chile rellenos rarely disappointed. The latter are my favorite mexican entree and Maria’s really made them into something new and inventive. The drinks were good too; particularly the El Diablito. Maria’s will be missed. I have not had CHiles and Chocolate but the only other restaurant that stands the test of good mexican is La Superior in Williamsburg.

  2. Marias Mexican Bistro had success for more than 5 years, and even more. The restaurant was surrounded by hardworking people who delivered great service, and great Mexican food. However every business has a downfall no matter what. Marias Bistro will open again at some point at a different location, be patient peepz or go to Mexico, and have even better mexican food. AND FOR THOSE WHINY PEOPLE WHO TALK SHIT about the restaurant, back OFF OR SHUTUP. Bye.

  3. i love how positive you are homesweet, but that place overdressed their food, charged prices that did not feel fair given the service and presentation and looked and felt very dirty. I loved their $5 margarita happy hour but rarely enjoyed eating there.

I hope Chavella’s or La Superior opens in Park Slope.

  4. You people are on crack. Maria’s totally rocked. Great place for fresh authentic Mexican seafood cuisine. I had many a great night there, remember when Maria’s was the size of a closet and I loved their interesting avocado magaritas. Maria’s if you are reading this–come on over to SouthStuy. We miss you!!!!! You will have loyal customers forever!!!!!

  5. Place is terrible. Will be happy to see something better take it’s spot.

You want good Mexican in the neighborhood go to Fonda, La Taqueria or Chiles and Chocolate.

Also, Pequena on Vanderbilt is good.
