Best Bar Food in Brooklyn?
Could Brooklyn be coming upon a bar food renaissance? We’re big fans on the new-ish Commodore, which got a favorable $25 and Under review in today’s New York Times, and the Village Voice‘s Fork in the Road blog is raving about Honeychiles, the restaurant tucked inside Williamsburg’s divey Charleston: “Honeychiles’ offers po’boys, jambalaya, hush puppies, cornbread, and black-eyed peas, among other dishes, and it’s some of the best bar food in Brooklyn. Last night, the seafood po’boy special was made with fried shrimp, the cornmeal-crusted shellfish crisp and peppery. They’re stuffed into a crusty loaf with mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato–shake on the Trappey’s hot sauce that’s available on the side.” Any other spots with stand-out bar food that we should add to our must-try list?

Now Open: Tin City & Pine Box Rock Shop
We’ve been keeping an eye on Tin City Drug and General Store, and now Bed-Stuy Blog reports that the shop and soda fountain is open for business at 366 Lewis Avenue, between Macon and Halsey Streets. Plus, Pine Box Rock Shop has opened in an old coffin factory at 12 Grattan Street (at Bogart Street) in Williamsburg, no phone).

Drinking Al Fresco in Brooklyn Bridge Park
The Brooklyn Bridge Wine Bar, “which sits on its plaza in the park at the foot of Old Fulton Street,” has started serving wine and beer, the New York Post reports: “The eatery has been open for a month, serving chicken wraps, salads, and cheese plates. But [General Manager Charlie] Marshall knew what the people have really been waiting for since March: a Brooklyn Pilsner in the great outdoors without that annoying brown bag. That said, drinking is only allowed on the bar’s premises.”

After the jump: Tanoreen is better than ever, where to drink gourmet soda in Brooklyn, SCRATCHbread’s $25K fundraiser, and a German brunch menu in Williamsburg…

Recently Reviewed: Tanoreen
7523 Third Avenue at 76th Street, Bay Ridge; (718) 748-5600
“[There’s] no match for the restaurant’s knafeh, a baked-to-order sweet-and-savory treat—copious enough for a four-top—featuring warm, gooey cheese under an intense buttery layer of shredded honey-soaked phyllo. You’re not likely to find better outside the West Bank. Thanks to Bishara’s knafeh, her pilafs, spreads and gorgeous grilled meats, the new Tanoreen remains just as packed as the old one. In fact, demand seems to have swollen to fill the much larger space, a reality that’s not surprising in the least.” [Time Out New York]
