About NY Post article and BQE expansion proposals, look out when anything is “promised”.
The BQE was originally a parkway? Do you have any pictures!!
Rob, hilarious.
The thing to fear among the BQE alternatives is an expansion under the promenade that leaves residents (and promenaders) looking, hearing and smelling highway traffic. Eliminating the 2 bridge connections can be solved by TOLLING THE DAMN BRIDGES — and prohibiting trucks. There will still be the Williamsburg Bridge connection to Manhattan from the now-tunneled highway. Peter King had a most intriguing idea last night — in conjunction with the tunnel alternatives, restore the BQE to its original 2-lane parkway function, this time opening it up to bicycles. This would seem the best of all worlds. It channels through and truck traffic on expressways, and preserves scenic routes for slower modes that can take advantage of the views and the curves.

The approach from Columbia to Atlantic allows you to turn right after stopping on a red. I’m sure it causes all sorts of confusion and danger for pedestrians. The should just remove the sign and make it a standard stop.
That’s not a bad idea, CGar. They’re going to have to do something to make this safer. Hopefully before there is (g*d forbid) an accident.
Cobble, I tell people who are approaching from Borough Hall or north of Atlantic to walk down Joralemon, NOT Atlantic. And then walk around 1BBP to get to the park, because the sidewalk along Furman Street is NOT wide enough. By approaching from behind 1BBP, you end up at the entrance to the water park!
It is proposed to start in 2020. That means 2030. I’ll be retired and long gone from brooklyn.
