  1. rob — I was just kidding CGar about the cat hair. Rug is clean.

jackal — sorry you’re sick. The email made no demand for return payment, but scammer offered $50 extra for me to hold the item until he got back. totally generic text — no mention of rug or anything particular about the item. The english was bad in an odd way, and the tone was weirdly demanding. Not going near it.

I’m still at work and just saw your post. There’s a place on 54th just west of Madison, on the south side of the street, called Papillon, that might fit the bill. Not vegetarian, but lots of great salad options. It’s a crazy bar scene downstairs, at least in the evening, but a fairly nice (but not too pricey) restaurant upstairs. If she eats fish, you could go to Bice, across the street on the same block.

You could also try Cellini, on 54th between Madison and Park. It’s a great Italian power lunch kind of place, where your friend should be able to get a vegetarian pasta dish (provided she’s not a vegan, since there’s obviously usually a lot of cheese involved). Fresco on 52nd between Madison and Park is an even more power lunchy type of place, also mostly Italian food. You should try to get a reservation at either of these places, otherwise there’s usually a long wait.

Too bad Takashimaya has closed. They had a wonderful Japanese tea lounge downstairs, where you could get vegetarian Japanese lunch fare that was just fantastic. I used to work in this area, and went to all of these restaurants fairly often.

  3. is the rug still available? lol. nevermind if you are serious about it being full of cat hair. you know i like you slopey, but that just nasty hahahah. and who knows of you have bedbugs! ive gotten a few weirdish scams when ive sold video game stuff on craigslist as well.

  4. CH – try the box tree. It’s kosher vegetarian. Don’t know what the prices are but I think it more or less fits the bill. I ate there once in early 2003. I remember it being very good. Even the kosher wine, and kosher wine usually sucks.
