Here’s a picture from inside City Hall this morning, where the last public hearing was held for the Domino Development to come in South Williamsburg. We’ll have details tomorrow, but City council member Steve Levin took the time to grill Domino representatives, while what seemed like an equal amount of supporters, wearing bright yellow, Domi-YES t-shirts, and dissenters filled the audience. There was a protest on the steps outside before the hearing, and there still is major concern over the density of the proposed project: The developers are looking to build approximately 20 percent more square feet than would be allowed as-of-right under the 2005 rezoning of the neighborhood. Transportation, affordable housing, and public space were also major issues brought to the table.

  1. please hurry and do this. it’s just a bunch of dead buildings now. waterfront access and new life will be very welcome.

this is not a lot of people compared to many many areas of brooklyn and especially not compared to manhattan.

good news for local schools. lots of influx of middle class kids from educated parents. better kids, better test scores, better ratings, prices go up.

  2. “and public space were also major issues brought to the table.”

Funny – didn’t see Levin out front of the Bedford L handing out flyers when the developers of the huge development on Kent and Division were forced to cut the public space from their plan due to the Hasidic backlash.
