This weekend was Coney Island’s famous mermaid parade, an event worth noting today on the first and longest day of summer. According to Coney Island’s website, the Mermaid Parade has been around since 1983, and pays homage to Coney Island’s forgotten Mardi Gras, which lasted from 1903 to 1954. This picture, by Barry Yanowitz, is a wave foaming as it hits the beach. Hello, summer!
