barneys-coop-rendering.png
barneys-062410.jpg Yesterday evening the Barney’s Co-Op presented the first renderings of the storefront at 194 Atlantic to Community Board Six’s Landmarks and Land Use Committee, who approved the design with a few reservations. The picture above is two different views of the street-level storefront: the top picture is the proposed entryway (they will be replacing the right sided door with a wooden one), and a storefront display. The bottom picture is the other end of the storefront, which comes up to the Trader Joe’s, with another door location. They will be adding the black wood across the top of the storefront, the Barney’s signage, and most notably, the metal grill work on the windows. The grill work was the point of discussion last night; the designers insisted the opaque metal design (to be outside the windows) was an artistic element that wouldn’t take away much visibility. One board member asked that the windows remained at least 70 percent transparent and designers agreed. The main contention from the board was that this isn’t a final design, although the Barney’s folks insisted they planned to stay very close to the rendering presented above. The board unanimously approved before sending it to the Landmarks Commission, with one member saying, “It’s going to look more landmarked than the building looks right now.”
