Soup and Bread Cookbook Party
Based at the Chicago club The Hideout, Soup and Bread is a free weekly dinner to raise money for local food pantries and hunger relief organizations. Each week local musicians, artists, teachers, firefighters, writers, barflies, and – yes – professional cooks donate pots of soup, which are dished up at the bar along with loaves of homemade bread. All the food is free, but the hat is passed each week, and over the winter of 2009 Soup and Bread raised almost $3,000 to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Thursday, February 4. 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Free. 149 7th Street, The Bell House.
