35th Annual Atlantic Antic Street Festival
The 2009 Atlantic Antic is sponsored by the Brooklyn Community Foundation, Con Edison, Equinox Fitness and Six Points Craft Ales. This quintessential Brooklyn festival spans 10 blocks — from Hicks Street to Fourth Avenue, passing through Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, and Boerum Hill — making the Atlantic Antic one of the biggest street fairs in the country. 2nd Annual FREAKTOBERFEST
Shmaltz Brewing Company, Bierkraft, Southpaw, Piquena, and BeertenderBrooklyn present the 2nd Annual FREAKTOBERFEST Boutique Beer & Music Festival. A special session dubbed “Geektoberfest” will be held from 2 pm – 4 pm, which will include brewery owners pouring specialty beers and conducting educational tastings. This event will be MC’d by Donny Vomit, the Human Blockhead and current MC of the Coney Island Sideshow. Featured live performances by Corn Mo and 357 Lover. Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea takes place in Ft. Greene on Saturday and its historic Brooklyn Bridge location on Sunday. Both locations feature a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday, October 3. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Lafayette Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt Avenues. Sunday, October 4. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. In Dumbo, underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at the corner of Water and New Dock Street.

9th Annual Coney Island Film Festival
This year’s festival features ninety six films from around the world; a stunning array of high and low-brow fare, as diverse as the neighborhood it represents. Subjects range from the profound to the profane, showcasing the independent spirit and irreverent nature of the one and only Coney Island. This year’s centerpiece film is Charles Denson’s, The Prince of Mermaid Avenue. The story of Jimmy Prince, owner of Major Meats on Mermaid Avenue, who retired after a sixty-year run as an anchor of the Coney Island community. Come and enjoy. Friday – Sunday, October 2 – 4. Give A Paw 2009
This event will feature the 2nd Annual Brooklyn Dog Coat and Blanket Drive, Dog and Cat Adoptions, TTouch, Ask The Trainer booth, low-cost microchipping, low-cost spay/neuter mobile clinic, Blessing of the Animals, raffles, Design A Dog Bandana for the kids, and doggie bags for people who adopt at Give A Paw. The dog and blanket drive will happen from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Root Hill Cafe, at 4th Avenue and Carroll Street, and adoptions will happen on Sunday, Oct. 4th, at Root Hill Cafe and Gil Hodges Garden (around the corner from Root Hill).

The Fourth Annual ARTMART 11225 Arts & Crafts Market
This annual Brooklyn favorite features gorgeous handmade jewelry, accessories, knitwear, clothing, one-of-a-kind pottery, instruments, and many other items items. You’ll also find original artworks by local photographers, lithographers, and painters at incredible prices. Enjoy live performances by local bands, solo musicians, and take advantage of some great local food. Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Chile Pepper Fiesta
Enjoy a full afternoon of music and dance from chile-loving regions around the world. Sample sweets and spices on display at the Chocolate Chile Cabana, featuring some of the city’s newest chocolatiers, and cast your vote at the Brooklyn Chile Peppers ‘n’ Chocolate Takedown. There will be bands and classes to enjoy as well. Saturday, October 3. 12 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. 900 Washington Avenue, Cherry Esplanade.

No Money No Problems: A Recession Art Show
This show aims to prove that quality contemporary art can still thrive in an economy where even the cost of a paintbrush is a struggle. The event will feature the works of 15 artists who are adapting to their new financial limits. With diverse media and influences spanning photography, painting, installation, and sculpture, artists from across the United States show how talent can thrive even with low-budget media. Each piece has a $500 price limit, with many selling for under $100. Saturday, October 3. 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. 51 Bergen Street, Invisible Dog Gallery.

BACCHANAL fundraiser
The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to providing waterfront access and education to the public in an effort to improve the canal’s environment. For $25 per person, the family-friendly fundraiser will provide food, drinks, evening canoe rides, and entertainment. The money raised will go towards bettering the Gowanus Canal. 3rd Annual Red Hook Film Festival
The weekend will feature short film gems from neighborhoods around Brooklyn, including pieces about a Bushwick tailor, rooftop farms in Greenpoint, the Atlantic Yards boondoggle, Coney Island’s lost roller coaster, Williamsburg industry, and a whole program of films about Red Hook. Saturday & Sunday, October 3 &4. 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition screening room at 499 Van Brunt Street.

Shredzilla! 2009
This event is for business owners, people cleaning out their homes and individuals who want to rid themselves of sensitive paper and combat identity theft. Half the proceeds go to benefit
Flatbush Development Corp and the important work they’ve been doing in Flatbush for over 30 years. The costs is $10 per banker’s box (10″ x 12″ x 15″) or two standard sized plastic shopping bags. VISUAL VERNACULAR
Please come and celebrate new installation of the art of Pauli Ochi, Iviva Olenick, Lionel Pratt & Jeff Zorabedian. The artists in this group show collage text and images, and traditional and non-traditional art-making tools to comment on contemporary and urban culture. Pet Festival at Regina Pacis
In honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Rosalia-Regina Pacis Parish in Bensonhurst will sponsor a Festival of Pets. The Festival will feature pet blessings, pet adoptions, and a presentation by the NYPD K-9 Unit, as well as bowling, food, raffles, and arts and crafts. Cranberry Street Fair
This fair will feature face painting, carnival games, and an appearance by Jazzman Eric Loffswold. All proceeds go to the “beautification” of the neighborhood. All ages are welcome.
