The Kent Avenue Conundrum
Who woulda thought Kent Avenue could be so controversial? First it was the two-way bicycle lanes along Kent Avenue that caused some hubbub among the residents of Williamsburg, and now the Department of Transportation is proposing to make Kent Avenue one-way for vehicular traffic, a plan that would involve building a “floating” parking lane and diverting southbound traffic down North 14th and North 11th Streets, as per the graphic (click to expand). As with all changes to the Brooklyn landscape, the new proposal has met with both support and opposition. If you want to keep truck traffic on Kent Avenue, you can oppose the one-way-ification of this throughfare by signing a petition sponsored by a group of Williamsburg residents.
