This Scarano-designed development at 818 Dean Street is finally getting close to completion. The original new building application took forever (ok, four years) to get green-lighted by DOB, but work has been proceeding quickly in recent weeks. The four-story building has seven units. 1. IT’s OK, but I’d like it a lot more if it was all wood-clad?? That seems a little odd; it’s not as if that side of the building was somehow distinct from the other parts and there was some stylisitic reason to set it off a bit. That just looks kind of random. Would like to see the inside.

  2. since everyone is (quite fairly) accusing scarano of not being contextual, it’s hard for me not to see this building as a bit of a snide joke to his critics. notice how the left side wood sort of matches the color of the house there and that bluish-green matches the house on the right. it’s like a deliberate parody of any notion of being contextual. (don’t misunderstand me – i’m not saying it IS contextual – i’m saying it’s intentionally playing on being contextual.)
