  1. Petebklyn, maybe you should report them to someone…Acorn, 311, DA, don’t know who. I’ve noticed billboards all over Bed Stuy claiming to help with foreclosure. They have names that sound like city agencies but I doubt they are.

I appreciated the PMI insurance report, even though it’s a little murky. From what I hear, people aren’t having difficulty getting mortgages, rather it’s PMI that’s holding up deals. But not everyone. My mortgage broker said it’s impossible to guess, the rules change every day.

  2. Thanks Denton and Montrose. As a very late and reluctant participant in the world of digital photography I finally decided to download some stuff to the Brownstoner pool. I still shoot all of my most important stuff on medium format film but its also cool to be able to download stuff instantly and share it so easily.

  3. talk about scams (or at least what I think is probably a scam:
Anyone else get this large green very offical looking postcard in mail from a so-called ‘Equal Opportunity Home Council (EOHC)’?
claiming city property records indicate that you are entitled to an application and evaluation of your eligibility for EOHC discount rates and home improvement assistance.
Sounds to me way to get more homeowners that need work on their houses into some debt that will never recover from.
Predatory, abusive, and dishonest but probably totally legal in our nicely loosely regulated system.

  4. Well speak of the devil!!!

When my husband and I were shopping around for a home we put in an offer (which was accepted)for apt. 4E at 151 Kennsington. It’s a 4-Bed 3-Bath with a balcony that overlooked Lincoln Park. The apartment itself was BEAUTIFUL with a huge formal dining room replete with built ins and gorgeous floors and crown moldings. Problem is, the developer/sponsor is unethical to say the least. Once he learned we’d gone ahead with an inspection (which was discouraged by the agent) he flipped out and immediately canceled our contract. Turns out the facade of the building is in imminent need of serious repair (dangerously so). I was in tears during the inspection as things were being pointed out. It’s heartbreaking to see such a stunning place fall into such disrepair. He clearly doesn’t want to do the structural repairs while he’s holding onto so many units.

Over the course of the past year and a half I’ve watched it go into contract and back on the market 3 other times. He’s also reduced the price 100K.

Below is the floor plan (the dinning room and living room are marked in reverse on the plan):
