Bed Stuy BID Gets OK From City Council

The City Council approved a new business improvement district for Bedford Stuyvesant last week, reports the Brooklyn Eagle. The BID, which covers commercial properties on Fulton Street between Classon and Troy Avenues, came about through the joint efforts of the Fulton-Nostrand United Merchants Association and the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, will have a budget of $675,000 to spend on beautification, safety and economic development efforts. These services will give small businesses within the district a great opportunity to succeed, said Council Member Al Vann. The group’s 25-person steering committee is headed by Edmon Braithwaite of Nostrand Wines & Liquors and Noah Katz of Foodtown Supermarkets.
