LPC Votes: McCarren Approved, Riverside Postponed

After its annual end-of-summer hiatus, the Landmarks Preservation Commission had a full plate when it convened for its weekly meeting yesterday, the first for new commissioner Fred Bland. Among the many items on the agenda yesterday were the McCarren Park makeover and the proposed garage plan for the Riverside Apartments in Brooklyn Heights. The commissioners found time to vote 7-0 in favor of McCarren (after testimony from Historic Districts Council, the Landmarks Conservancy, McCarren Park Conservancy and Society for the Architecture of the City), but the clock ran out on the revised Riverside presentation before a vote could be held. Good news for the swimmers and skaters of North Brooklyn; bad news for indie rock fans.
