Design*Sponge Checks Out Brooklyn Kithaus

We’ve been waiting for pre-fab architecture to really take hold here in Brooklyn (though we did report earlier this year on modular townhouses in Bed Stuy). It appears the time has come, at least in one tiny corner of Williamsburg. The design/architecture blog Design*Sponge has images of the first Kings County kithaus—″Modernist modules,” according to its Web site. Maybe part of the hold up is that pre-fab ain’t always so easy in this town. “This kithaus’ location required each module to be carried, by hand, through a 3 story brick rowhouse,” they write. “The builders then added custom decks and wedged it in between warehouses and light industrial buildings to create this compact urban oasis.”
