When the tip came in last week that a fresh fruit joint was opening on Atlantic Avenue near Grand, we were a little surprised, but not that surprised. You see, it only confirmed a little theory that’s been brewing in our head for a while: That Atlantic Avenue in Clinton Hill may gentrify before Fulton Street. First there was Frank White. Now, there’s Atlantic Tropics, the new fruit shop; when we stopped by last week, there was still no fruit, but when Clinton Hill Blog went by this weekend (and snapped this photo), they were up and running. There’s at least one other business (that we know of) coming down the pipe that will add to the culinary corridor. Think there’ll ever be enough foot traffic to support a renaissance here?
