Revamped Building Code is On

The massive overhaul to the city’s building code took effect yesterday, according to City Room, marking the beginning of a one-year period in which new-building filings can conform to either the old or new codes. Some of the new rules must be followed immediately, however, including provisions relating to administration (aka fees), enforcement, and construction safety. The new regulations represent the first major revisions to the building code since 1968, and the many changes include mandates for sprinklers in more building types; smoke control systems in more buildings; site safety managers or coordinators on more job sites; permits for more types of scaffolds; and fee rebates for green design.
