We’ve been hearing rumblings for a number of months that yet another performance venue is in the offing for Gowanus. And so it is: Workers have been clearing out the ground-floor space of a warehouse on DeGraw Street between 3rd and 4th avenues for the past few weeks, and DOB filings for the spot say it’s going to be a “drinking and dancing establishment.” According to a couple of sources, some of the people involved with the venture have worked for the Virgin Festival. The inside of the building (click through to view) still looks pretty raw, so we’re guessing this is at least a few months away from becoming a reality. Gowanus already have one performance space in The Yard and both a club from the Save the Robots folks and a new venue from the Union Hall people coming to 7th Street. GMAP DOB
Update: A commenter points out that we forgot to mention Issue Project Room, which puts on shows at the Old American Can Factory on 3rd and 3rd, on the list of Gowanus venues. Our bad.

  1. Knickerbocker,
Are you sure you got the right place? I was quite the Robots habitue in my younger and cuter days. Robots didn’t open until 1 or 2 AM and the only drink that I remember being served was Vodka that was kept in plastic tonic/seltzer bottles and juice. But if you arrived early enough they had potato chips. A college friend of mine worked the door (at one point a bullet proof vest became necessary) and later DJ’ed there.

Maybe my kids can go to the Robots owners’ new venue.

  2. How could you leave out Issue Project Room? They used to occupy the silos now know as The Yard before moving to the old american can factory. It’s one of the best spots in Gowanus to hear live music…granted, they are negotiating a move to downtown Brooklyn. Easy come easy go.

  3. Save the Robots was the only really good EV club in the 80-90s. Free drinks until 10pm and a fun crowd of intelligent people. Glad to hear the owner is thinking of opening a club in the area.

    See you there.

  4. Hey what happened to that ridiculous and alarmist post regarding IndyMac? Were you guys so embarassed about inferring a California bank with no branches outside of CA was going to reverberate in Brooklyn that you took it down? Is Gabby the What?
