Streetlevel: Il Torchio Out, Anima In on Myrtle Avenue

As several tipsters alerted us to (and Clinton Hill blog reported), Il Torchio, the upscale Italian restaurant that opened last summer on Myrtle but never seemed to hit its stride, closed last week and was seamlessly replaced by a new restaurant that is being called Anima. We stopped by yesterday and spoke to the landlord, who also used to run Il Torchio, and the new owner. Turns out that it was just too much running a real estate business and a restaurant. As for the man behind the new spot, he used to run a place on Smith Street. We didn’t catch which one.
