IKEA’s hired hands were setting up a 20×20 cardboard box in Cadman Plaza this morning. The contents of the “studio apartment,” which is “flat packed for your convenience,” include a sofabed, coffee table, rug, laps, curtains, accent pillows, media center, sideboard, bookshelves. The retailer, which is opening its Red Hook location on June 18th, is installing the pop-up boxes in various spots around the city, including Union Square and near the Brooklyn Public Library.

  1. Brownstoner, are you going to continue with the Ikea media blitz right up to the tragic opening day? As if we didn’t know already that you are really part of the problem masquerading as a pro-brooklyn blog.

  2. I like that the studio apartment is called “Studio Apartment.” Ikea’s great and all, but it’s frustrating to shop in a store where bedspreads are called “Dahlbrugg” and bookshelves “Lenkii” or some such thing, instead of being labelled what they are.

And what, if any, provisions have been made for the tidal wave of traffic that will engulf Red Hook every weekend once the store is open?
