Today’s Garden of the Day comes from Stuyvesant Heights…I actually got inspired to redo our yard after seeing some of the submissions on Brownstoner. The lady and I are not the green sort, but we think that it turned out fine. One caveat for your readers is that it is a young garden (only planted a week ago) and it will fill in over time. We intentionally purchased younger plants to see the garden grow and grow with it.

About the yard…the total yard space is about 25′ wide by 40′ deep half the depth is a concrete and stone patio space (not pictured) the balance is a planted garden. Before we started, the yard was an overgrown mess of weeds and totally out of control ivy. We wanted to create an oasis-like space and a Brooklyn rendition of a Japanese garden type thing. Not sure if we hit the mark, but the Mrs. and I really like how everything turned out. We intentionally only placed bamboo fencing around the stone patio area. We wanted to create the illusion of a separate outdoor room. The rest of the fence will eventually be covered in ivy…kind of like an envelop of green (a la the Wrigley Field outfield wall)

I highly recommend my landscaper! The total budget for our gardens (he also planted our front yard) was $2,500. He managed to do everything for $2,700 including all materials and labor! I will supply his info upon request to anyone interested.
