StreetLevel: Slope Baluchi’s Still in the Works
About a year and a half ago Gowanus Lounge reported that the Indian restaurant Baluchi’s, formerly of Smith Street, was opening a new location in the Slope, on 5th Avenue between 2nd and 3rd streets. While the news was true, there’s been precious little progress on the restaurant space, and we’d lately come to accept the fact that it was probably never going to happen. Not the case, according to the owner, who toured us around the future eatery last week. As shown in the photo above, there’s an accumulation of furniture for the restaurant, and the owner says he’d like to open it in about a month and a half. So why the hold-up? The Baluchi’s proprietor blames crappy work crews for the extremely delayed opening. Whatever the reason, if/when the place does finally open, we think it’ll be a welcome addition to Park Slope’s dining scene, which does not boast a tremendous number of quality Indian restaurants.
