A reader just sent in this photo from 4th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in Park Slope. According to her email, the street “is blocked off with huge Police trucks, an DEP truck, firemen, cops, and people in Hazmat suits. Looked like they were all in front of one particular brownstone.” Anyone have any more details? Update: According to the NY Press, a 65-year-old man was found dead at 401 4th Street with “a clear, white liquid believed to be cyanide.” A NYPD spokesman says they don’t suspect any criminality, but the medical examiner is still checking it out. 1. “Please stop and think of the families who will inevitably read this.”

If I die today, I’m pretty sure my family won’t be spending tomorrow or any day thereafter scouring the comment section of brownstoner for reference to the event. If he was your neighbor/friend get off the internet and make some food for the family, write a condolence card, do something other than lash out at strangers. We aren’t the ones who poisoned him.

  2. This is the second death of a family friend that has made the news in the past year. I am disgusted and appalled that people have the audacity to make ignorant and insensitive comments on websites. Death is death and it is sad. Please stop and think of the families who will inevitably read this. How dare you mock a family’s pain?

  3. “do any of you have a conscience? moral fiber?”

Nope. We are in a completely utterly narcissistic and childlike society now and it’s only getting worse with all the kiddies who are being obsessed over and never taught to think about others before themselves. Which if anybody remembers that quaint concept, used to be called “the Golden Rule” which everybody was taught from a young age. No more.
